V ROOM, LONG BEACH
by The Draculas
Julia Huang of @interTrend Communication says that when the Pow! Wow! Festival first came to Long Beach, CA, it was hard to get walls from business owners. After seeing the results of the first two years however, things have changed and in 2017 22 artists participated, with 8 of them local. When landmark E 4th St dive-bar, V Room, agreed to provide a wall they requested it be painted by someone from Long Beach, and Art Center-trained illustrators Gary Musgrave and Jeff McMillan were happy to get the assignment. Each leading their own busy lives, when the two get together to paint it usually ends up being late at night so in 2015 they adopted the name The Draculas for their partnership. Believing in the value of including the ominous and a hint of danger, the two often include elements of the haunted or creepy in their visual stories, but leave it up to the viewer to create their own accompanying narrative. @thedraculas @powwowlongbeach @VRoomCocktails
