“Some secrets are best buried deep in the earth. Never to be found.“
Hávamál - stanza 90 (6/6)
Alternative translation:
To love a fickle woman is like this: setting out over ice with a two year old colt, unshod, restive and unbroken; or sailing a ship without a rudder in a storm; or hunting reindeer over slippery rocks, with a pulled hamstring.
Hávamál - stanza 85 (2/6)
Hávamál - stanza 84 (1/6)
In Hávamál, “sayings of the high one”, vikings are advised on a number of things, including women. Rollo and Floki borrow his words in S3E1 when talking to Björn and Torstein.
The advice are quite interesting so we decided to make some posts of the stanzas used in the show and give you both the old Norse as well as the English version. The number of the stanzas are as found in Heimskringla as well as Anglo-Saxons.net. And to make it easier, we decided to go with the order they are found in Hávamál.
Beautiful friendship...
