I wanted to talk about this clip (from Pyro's latest episode) because I think it illustrates a part of his character we don't talk much about. That being his pride.
Because, while for Owen the conversation was over as soon as Pyro challenged his control (in his POV the window cracking happens when Pyro tells him 'I know you hold no power over me'), for Pyro the turning point in the conversation is Owen trying to assert his authority (the 'don't try me').
So far, Pyro has shown consistently that they don't respect other people (with them getting offended when Apo pushed them off the bridge, often calling out the humans for their daring attitudes, and pretty much getting irritated any time Owen's mentioned). Owen is among the list of people they do not respect. And we now know that the reason for that is that Owen hasn't so far accomplished much. He throws around a lot of threats, but Pyro's right to point out that they've done more dirty work than him.
And I think that the difference between how he reacts when threatened by Scott, someone he respects (immediately apologizing, making himself smaller, offering to make up for his mistakes), compared to Owen, someone he doesn't respect (posturing, refusing to back down, ranting about revenge once he's alone), is interesting to note.
Also, not included in the clip is the fact that Pyro's annoyance comes in part from the fact that Scott already scolded them. They're on okay terms with their Sire, and they've already been annoyed in the past by Owen trying to make certain choices for them without even consulting Scott (like refusing the cure). In their description of what the future looks like to them, they're standing by Scott's side, alone. And Owen (as well as all the others that they consider inferior) are nowhere to be seen.
I wonder if he'd be more willing to stand up against Scott as well had Scott proven less capable and authoritative. Of course, as things stand, Scott has turned three people and punished Pyro's indiscretions twice. He IS someone to be feared. To think otherwise would be silly. But still... I do wonder if things could have been different had Pyro been the only one Scott turned.
