De-Social Media

After deleting your Facebook, meta will retain your data for a 90 day period. However some information is maintained indefinitely. this includes:

Log records (log in activity, groups you clicked on, device info, IP addresses used, and dates of your activities. Your name is removed from these records but it's a lot of data to hold onto).

Information shared by others (Messages you sent to friends, photos or posts you were tagged in on someone else's timeline, posts or comments you made on a friend's page).

Off-facebook activity data (Data collected from third-party websites and apps via trackers, and data collected about you even if you never provided it directly to facebook. This information may include your name, email address, phone number, and details about your browsing habits).

Compliance and legal obligations (The company reserves the right to keep your information as long as needed to comply with legal obligations, prevent harm, investigate terms violations, or for other "legitimate purposes").

Helpful browser extensions

I use firefox and firefox forks like Zen and Fennec. These are extensions I personally use and recommend on Firefox-based browsers that may not be available on others.

Ublock Origin: Premier ad blocker, please use this

Privacy Badger: Algorithmically learns to block hidden trackers from entities like facebook and google, not machine learning or AI but it is a "learning algorithm". Very "set and forget"

Ghostery: Similar to privacy badger, but uses preset filter lists rather than a learning algorithm. Open source.

ClearURLs: Extensive and open source extension that removes tracking elements from URLs
