Pioneer of Net.Art

Belrgade-born artist Vuck Ćosić is considered a fouder of the Net.Art movement – and credited with having inveted the term. Ćosić emigrated to Italy following the collapse of the USSR, dropped his career in archeology, and has been active in the art scene since 1994. His work is predominantly text based. Aesthetically, Ćosicć likes to abstract the form of text characters into grey values to compose images, which has come to be known ASCII art.

Deep ASCII is an exploration of moving image by influential net artists Vuk Ćosić. In this piece, Ćosić has converted the disruptive porno film Deep Throat into an ASCII interpretation; using a web based software which ultilises charaters to represent grey values and form an image. Through this sensational point of view, Ćosić questions the state of technology and capitalism.

Note: This video is highly stylised, but still presents scenes of a graphic nature which might not be appropriate for some audiences or the workplace. It also requires Java to be installed and appropriately configured.
