You know, as much as I love the headcanon of Vulcan hand sensibility and difficulty wearing rings, I can't help but remember Sarek and T'Lar's huge rings in The Search For Spock and how it doesnt hinder them at all-

I'm very curious as to where "Vulcan hands are sensitive" came from. I can't seem to find any canonical basis for this. Like, I know Vulcans are touch telepaths, but that doesn't mean hands are an erogenous area?

Touching erogenous zones doesn’t always result in sexual stimulation. Maybe he had spent so long around Humans it was no longer an issue?
Good point!

I’ve always sort of assumed it’s like guys getting contact-friction from the pants - might do something for you or your brain might ignore the stimulation because you know it’s not the right time. Otherwise I imagine it would just be irksome to do mundane tasks.
That makes a lot of sense. They're probably able to shield/ignore it, or just out-logic it.
So I was watching Star Trek IV last night and in one scene, I saw Sarek clapping his hands (along w/the rest of those assembled for Kirk's tribunal at the end of the movie). This got me thinking: What must it feel like for a Vulcan to clap his hands? Painful? Erotic? Titillating? Something in between? And that got me wondering if a Vulcan can stimulate himself by touching his own hands. Your thoughts?
I’ve never thought about that before! I think it’s fanon that has made Vulcan hands into erogenous zones (or something that came after TOS). Certainly hands being used for kissing is canon; we see it in Enterprise Incident when Spock got to make out with the hot Romulan Commander. Spock’s non mind-meld version of touch telepathy is documented if you accept Animated Series as canon (I don’t remember it coming up in TOS, except maybe when he’s voodoo-ing the wall that one time and Jim kinda gets off on it?, because that isn’t really a meld?). I can definitely get on board with the idea of sensitive hands, though, especially when you tack on the Vulcan greeting in lieu of a handshake.
So assuming we accept the idea that Vulcan hands are sensitive, to the point of being erogenous zones, I think you could argue that acts like clapping might be an issue. Imagine the first time a Vulcan saw a human clapping! He probably thought the guy was jerking off in public. Or maybe it’s considered rude? I think you could go any way with this.
Anyone have thoughts?
