The file’s sound grated his ears, but he kept at it despite the muttered protests.
“Stop whimpering; it’s for your own good. Your claws are weapons.”
A pair of furry eyebrows raised the way they once had across a bar, years ago, when they’d been on the face of a man instead of a beast. When they’d both been different people. Silco sighed and moved to the next finger.
“Fine. It’s for my good.”
The laugh was the sound he remembered, the look fond, not deserve—not anymore—but offered, in spite of everything, and wasn’t that something.
listening to Medellia of the Gray Skies by the Smashing Pumpkins, which I know about because of a friend from long, long ago in the livejournal days. I don't remember how we met, exactly. it might have been through a fandom, although I can't place which one she might have belonged to. we were all in communities back then, so it might have been through another shared interest. her icon was always Billy Corgan, who I associate with her to this day.
for a little while, we ran a community together about building self confidence. but as our lives evolved, I left fandom for many years and livejournal was a casualty. we lost touch. but when I came back a little over a decade ago, I wandered onto her blog to find a sad update. my life had also been sad. I left a comment, and the next time I checked the site, I had a reply from her. I checked on her periodically. in my last comment to her, I gave her my updated contact information, but I never heard back, and she hasn't posted in over a year.
I don't use livejournal anymore, and I've never found her on any other site. but to you, dear friend from my early 20s, you live in a place indelibly carved into my heart, and I love this song because of you.
Mutual pining is great, but you know what's even better? Mutual pining where they're both fully aware the feelings are requited, they just can't do anything about it for other reasons. Or maybe they technically could but they've had to choose not to, because of The Circumstances.

one genre of fanfiction that seems to have mostly disappeared since i became an adult is shenanigans-type fics. like not exactly crack but just "the gang goes to 7-11" type, extremely low-stakes plot stories. the beach episodes of fanfiction. i just feel like i don't see those around so much anymore. whered they go. i miss them :(
how are you gonna be 31 and posting fandom content bro leave it to the teenagers
People 10 and 20 years older than me are writing your favorite fanfics, and drawing your favorite characters. You'd have no fandom without the people you think are 'too old' to have hobbies.
