And that's not even mentioning the maulings, chemical explosions, crush accidents, electrocutions, and the fact some labs have landmines.

Her lab is uncomfortably close to the vendo labs. Her critters are sometimes found wandering the halls and vents nearby. She's got antivenin on-hand but it hasn't been checked in a while, she's so used to getting stung, she hardly bothers taking it herself.
Interns generally get along with each other but things can get competitive between labs, especially when there's not enough supplies to go around.
Team Expresso Vendo is rivals with Zap Vendo and Bounce Vendo, and the three end up fighting a lot because the Vykkers are stingy and won't order enough shit for all of them.
Expresso Vendo always calls Joe over to sort out other teams, since he's the scrappy ex-groundie who's used to it. And anything that interferes with his job is his berserk button.
Most Interns, like Vykkers, are bitchy and whiny but reluctant to get hurt, so it's useful having Joe around. But he can't be the tough guy if the other person is pretty, in that case he's worse than useless.
Because of this ask this morning I'm assigning Joe the trait of Can't Talk To Cute People. Sorry Joe!!
In my personal brain, Interns are like Vykkers in that they're unisexual. The "default"/majority of them are men. Small Town Intern Joe is fine being male, but I think he'd be mindblown encountering girl Interns, having never considered any alternatives. Plus, none of the other Interns at his old place were pretty like them. He's learning so many things at Vykkers Labs, I hope he doesn't get eaten.

Amy and Aqua, AKA the Fluoride Girls, two do-nothing goof-off inseparable BFFs who work in the Fluoride Tanks at Vykkers Labs. Both have worked at Vykkers Labs 13 their entire lives & are experts on how things run there, namely, how to break the rules & steal.
Amy has always worked in the lower levels and mostly fixes the computers, though she has been mauled by the occasional sewer slog while filling in for others. Amy is lazy and chill and non-judgmental and does bare minimum work. She talks like your typical valley girl.
Aqua, meanwhile, used to work in pharmaceutical testing before being assigned to the 'Tanks. She's great at nabbing prescriptions and knows all their fun effects. She is fun-loving, energetic, and mischievous. She's always dragging Amy along with her schemes.
They both can be irritating at times, but they know practically everyone at the labs & are VERY useful friends to have if you need something done without the Vykkers finding out.
