Her head was swimming and everything was fuzzy. Raph didn’t remember how she’d gotten on the ground. Briefly and confusedly, she flashed back on the day at the markets and thought for a moment it was the same day. But her ears were ringing and when she blinked to make her vision a little clearer, dust was still dancing in the air around her.
“Master?” She called, coughing a little on the dust she’d inhaled before remembering that Quint wasn’t with her. He hadn’t been often lately. Not that she was trying any less to please him but it had all been a little complicated. She felt the sting of Cyrus leaving too. Focusing on her fingers for a moment, she realised that they were dusty and somewhat bloody. Finally, looking around, her brain settled on the realisation this was another attack – and she wasn’t safely sequestered in Quint’s house this time. This time she’d been close to an explosion.
Was all the blood hers? She rolled over dizzily, glancing out at the city in time to see lights going off. A sparkling ripple that disappeared over the city. Her heart clenched. Unable to will herself up from her back, she rolled again to her front and tried to push herself up, staggering as she reached her feet. Everything ached, and she almost fell over again when she tried to put weight on her right ankle. It was the only spot she could pinpoint even though she knew it wasn’t her only injury. Swiping at her face brought back blood from her hairline and Raph couldn’t help a tiny whimper.
Trying to take a step saw her collapse to her knees again and she cried out, “Hello? I need help! Please...” And hoped that whoever came was from the city and not someone invading. The last thing she needed was for anyone to think she was trying to escape.
