It is w-i-p wednesday again my dudes.

Since I'm actually going somewhere once in a while the occassion needs an outfit.

Have to have this done by sunday and the corset top is nowhere near finished...

The corset top used to be a dirndl top I bought at a flea Market years ago.

Way too much work unpicking and fitting that thing since it was also way too big for me.

I wanted to highlight the beautiful rose embroidery. My idea was to make it look like a brooch. I used iron-on foam Interfacing which I then used as a guide for the trim on the right side.

Life Mimics Art

I was inventing new furnitures for the game over the past couple weeks. I made this hall table and I couldn't think of anything for the catalog description so I just wrote down something about it being a place for your sims to set their mail. I stuck it in my game earlier to check the shadows and slots and guess what????!!! One of my test sims got the mail and put it on the table. LOL.

I think my blacks are too dark. The wood grain looks nice when it's light in the game but they sure are dark. Guess I'll have to go through and lighten all the templates I used that black wood more than I did already.

You know what day it is! It is work-in-progress-wednesday!

This is a project from my Ufo pile that was started in 2022 and has moved with me twice.

When it's finished it's supposed to look like this:

FUN FACT: the blue fabric is a leftover from this dress.

I feel like we've had too many wednesdays lately...

I've also recently received my Duchess Milianda JSK in the mail and deciced I'd make a cutsew for it.

I have this leftover piece of floral chiffon that would go pretty well with it I think:

I'm trying to draft the pattern myself as I have a specific style in mind:

The style is based on a dirndl blouse, waist-length with front ruching and a rather low neckline, imitating the neckline of the dress.

Will either have a shirring back or a side zip (or both) and either elbow-length puff sleeves or short fluttery sleeves, depending on what I can squeeze out of the fabric.

Just a small w-i-p this week:

The world's weirdest bonnet?!

That's possibly because the pattern is actually for a vintage sun hat! the pattern is by Mary Nishimuta.

These things are awesome! They are reversible (although mine won't be) and can be stored flat or rolled up! A convenience you don't get with regular lolita bonnets!

So I really couldn't stop thinking about turning this into a lolita-style bonnet so that's what I'm trying to do.

Luckily this dress still needed a bonnet (and I had all the materials for that on hand):

The butterfly dress is still a w-i-p

I've had some hiccups yet again:

Look at this photo. Notice something off?

Notice how the print is lighter in the skirt than in the top? -this is unfortunately not due to bad lighting or my camera being weird. That's due to the skirt having been washed twice already.

I should preface this by saying that all my fabrics get pre-washed but the skirt had lots of markings on it that I wanted to wash out before putting the dress together for good. Not only had the colour faded insanely but also, the main fabric shrunk and left the lining much too long:

These fabrics were flush before washing.

-Once again, I DID pre-wash these fabrics! But I got scared and decided to wash the bodice also, to see if the same thing would happen.

But it DID NOT!? I do not understand.

So I decided it's as good as it's gonna get and undid my handsewn skirt hem, shortened the lining and hand-hemmed again.

On another note, I have been looking for matching buttons for this project the whole time. I've had simple black plastic ones in the correct size... but how boring! I wanted butterfly or bug-shaped ones!

After months of searching with no luck the solution finally came to me while looking closely at the fabric. The smallest bug (I think it's a ladybug) on the fabric would match the size of button I need!

So I set out and bought a pack of buttons to cover with fabric.

I wanted all the bugs to face upward in the finished garment, so to keep them from shifting I applied some fabric glue to the fabric before placing them onto the button fronts. I later washed the finished buttons while the glue had not yet dried to get it off again.

Here's how it'll look:

One last minute alteration I made was cut the button placket in the contrasting fabric and not in the main fabric as you're supposed to, because I wanted the buttons to really pop. On the main fabric they would have just disappeared I think.

Now I'm finally on to assemble the whole thing and I'm very positive I'll have this done by friday!

I know you're all dying to know how my SIL's dress is coming along (or maybe it's just me lol)

anyways:

We did another fitting with the skirt basted on and it turned out the back waistline was too low:

So I raised the waistline bit and I think it looks better now:

I also took the tiniest amount of width away from the center back. There's still some wrinkles there but at this point we just deal...

The dress is actually finished by now! Tbh it's not something I'm proud of at all. Towards the end I truly hated every stitch. Buuuut! An important thing I've learned is that non-sewing people (most of the time) won't even notice your mistakes -at all! So I'm probably stressing about nothing!

Dress is done, it fits and the poor girl has something to wear! So there's that!
