What I wore for DoKomi sunday
BEFORE AND AFTER
It is done! Not perfect but done!
It's a 'fashion corset', that uses zip ties as boning sind closes with hook and eye tape at the side seam.
Zip ties are a perfectly functional and inexpensive type of boning, if you're not actually planning on dramatically cinching your waist!
Walking into every store in the City like whaddup, I need all your pink ribbon.
That shade of pink is impossible to find....
It is w-i-p wednesday again my dudes.
Since I'm actually going somewhere once in a while the occassion needs an outfit.
Have to have this done by sunday and the corset top is nowhere near finished...
knit and destroy tape measure scarf x
A little Aliens western get up I made.
its so disgusting that you actually have to practice skills to retain them. just stay in my brain for retrieval pleaaaaaaassssssseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Say thank you to people who make free stuff you can use however. Thank you repeating pattern artists, thank you texture artists, thank you background artists, thank you royalty free music artists, thank you font designers, thank you thank you thank you mwah mwah mwah
Also please welcome my new sewing machine!
After 13 years with my old trusty Lady, I finally rehomed her with a sewing beginner just as I was all those years ago.
And yes, the pink just did it for me! But also it suits my needs and more importantly my Budget.
Here's to many more sewing adventures in the next 13 years!
Quick Room Tour because it will probably never be this tidy again 🫠
My life has been going through so many changes in the last couple of years and probably will be for the next couple of years.
So I make the most of what I have while I have it.
concept: if I marry another woman who sews, we make each other’s wedding outfits
Has this been made before?
everyone should learn to sew to the level of being able to hem things or repair rips in your clothes. it is difficult to do well but not at all difficult to do poorly and frequently poorly is good enough
Hello anyone missing me yet?!
I am alive and kicking!
Life happens and it will keep on happening but I have a new w-i-p:
I am currently wrestling this beast which consists of not one but two bitchy fabrics: viscose jersey and stretch tulle. Choices were made 🫠
It will hopefully look something like this when it's done:
Finger's crossed!
me: ok, sewing machine, we gotta sew this tiny fucking thing so please behave
sewing machine: needle plate hungry
I love sewing
I love making things
I love having made things
I love seeing where a garment is not, where I want one to be, and being able to say "let's make that happen"
I love inspiring people to say "wait, you can just do that? time permitting, you don't have to be bound by what massive, wasteful corporations tell you to wear or how long they say you're allowed to keep wearing it?" obviously there are other barriers to entry, but I find that so many people regard sewing as this impossible alchemy they couldn't even begin to touch- and the fact that I can make it real and less intimidating for them is huge to me
I wanted to learn to sew for as long as I can remember, with no real idea why. and even though I didn't learn until I was 19 or start in earnest until I was 23, I'm proud of the progress I've made in the last eight years
I bought a mantle that my friend was retiring from her historical wardrobe, and it arrived in the mail today. it's soft and warm and gorgeous to look at, but it's also something my friend made herself. I can wear my friend's skill and talent and careful creation as I move through the world
I can wear things born entirely in my own mind, made three-dimensional and real
god, it's the best feeling
