Realistically...we all know why I watched it(◍•ᴗ•◍) And I was surprised to realize that it's actually VERY GOOD?!
There are multiple points where the characters do something unexpected or something that makes you want to scream and hit them through the screen, which is amazing! It's not boring, the plot is interesting enough to keep you hooked and the actors are very good at their job!!
I have some criticism for the police department Your worker comes back from maternity leave and you think it's an amazing idea to assign her a very dangerous and top secret prisoner transfer job. My girl experienced probably the worst first day back at work in existence.
Olly is better than me, I would be running around aimlessly with panic and Mia if I were him. Why would you trust a random ass man talking to you on the phone my dude... I mean, GOOD that you did, but I just know I'd ignore Tibor and do my own shit. Which is probably why I'd end up dead but that's besides the point
Would I suggest this series? YES!!
More below
S1E1
Tibor literally carrying Amber's ass...? I mean, she is a trained cop, shouldn't she be the one in control? I can acknowledge that she wasn't trained for this though and she was probably in shock...Also, tying herself to the prisoner, I understand why she'd do that, committed to her job but your family is waiting back for you and they'd love to see you alive, maybe not making yourself able to run from a murderer would be a bad idea...
S1E2
YES house husband, stay at home dad Olly, GOOD. He was such a cutie potato trying to escape but also DAMN the stress! I could feel it through the screen!
Also, Amber fighting with her own moral beliefs...loved the whole thing, because it proves that she'll change after this job and she'd do anything to get to her family
S1E3
Amber's friends/team doing it all for her!!! They really are a second family, it was so sweet seeing this!!
S1E4
Istg my anxiety this whole episode.... Tibor's mom creeped me out. Her relationship with her son was so complex and difficult to keep up with, but at the end of the day, I think they both just were messed up after what happened with Sebastian.
Nina smiling while killing people, idk if I find it hot or disturbing...
Amber reuniting with her family!! I smiled so hard, I could feel both their relief and it was so sweet! Also, Olly staying up guard so she could rest, bare minimum but also CUTEEE
When Nina found Olly and Mia I was so fucking panicked, I can't even express it. Olly running to defend Mia, that dad would literally die for his child, as he should!
(I don't remember if this is in this episode or the next) The "bad" guys keeping Mia entertained, like yeah, I love that they can kill whoever but hurting a baby is NOT an option.
S1E5
I felt like everyone was compromised like huh? Are they threatening everyone's family or just offering them money cause this is confusing. Amber reaching out for her mom when she was getting hopeless, I think the whole show emphasizes so much in the importance on family, with Amber, her mom, Olly and Mia, Tibor and his mom and Declan with Harrison as well...
S1E6
My jaw dropped. I was so mad at Tibor because I didn't see it coming at all!?! Why the hell would you lie?! But at the end of the day it all made sense, because of course the only time they'd truly be alone was when they were dead so...
Nina killing Tibor, I feel like a student killing the teacher is always such an interesting plot! I wonder if we'll get season 2 with Nina or something, but I must admit I am satisfied with the ending!
It was a good movie overall. I must admit that the only reason I watched it was Finn Bennet but still, I really loved the way it was filmed, a big portion of it we see though a camera and I love that style (Random, the movie The Visit is also filmed this way and it makes it a lot more interesting)
Even though I did like the cinematography and the colors used, I think the plot was confusing. We just see a couple of people get lost inside a labyrinth and die. As someone who had no idea what the backrooms were, I only understood the whole concept from internet articles I just read and maybe a bit from the very last scene.
What I found confusing was why would the copy-humans want to hurt the real humans? And not even all of them, we can clearly see that some are indifferent. If anyone has theories pls let me know
I loved that Clark was just a bad person and the movie did nothing to change that or make us feel bad for him. It was just the way it is.
Plus, I saw some theories here and these are the two that stood out to me from the scenes we see Mary talk to Phil
☆ Mary did escape and return to the real world, but because she entered the Complex, this copy of her is left inside of it forever, a literal manifestation of the movie’s metaphors about getting trapped inside childhood trauma.
☆ The woman we see talking to Phil in the final scene is not the real Mary; it is her Backrooms copy. Their conversation is not real either; it is a figment of the imagination inside this copy’s broken mind, who does not realize she is a copy who’s stuck in the Backrooms.
I feel like I'm missing something that I should get, but really, I'm mostly confused. The movie barely explains anything and there isn't really any plot if you think about it... I'd love to be proven wrong though.
This was the first book of his I've read and I can say I loved it enough to find 10 more of his books!!!
I was not expecting the ending! Sure, I knew that something wasn't adding up but the end was shocking! I felt thrilled and confused after I finished the book and honestly that's what I love about it.
The spider scene had me gagging and taking a break but it's nothing serious...I'm just arachnophobic and a bit dramatic when it comes to it. (searching for the image in the beginning was very hard lol)
Fitzek was basically playing with words and settings! The plot twist was good, the story was not confusing and I can say that I felt a lot of anxiety during some of the scenes, especially the one that "Max's father" is in Guido's room.
Guido...ah, such a genius. His character was so fucked up and impressive! His personality is complex, despite him being a shitty person, and I love that we see a little bit of his background to understand it better. I wish there was more of it, but that wasn't what the book was about so it's understandable.
I loved that he managed to make us believe that we knew what was going on. Even though I liked the ending, it's probably not as original as it seemed at the moment. A bit like A Girl's guide to murder #1 ending. Still, I didn't predict it so I guess that's what matters
It has a bit of gore and some unnecessary sub plots... for example I find the prison exploitation 'business' very unnecessary and unpleasant but I managed to look past that...
Would I suggest this book? Absolutely. But if you are a parent or if you have a soft spot for kids, I'd advise you to skip this one!! It can get a bit sad
So...I watched this for the Finn Bennet marathon, which was a bad idea because he had less than a minute of screentime. Of course he nailed it with his cowboy hat but - come on.
Now, about the film! I liked it! It's a very interesting attempt to show mental illness in a creative way.
Though I must admit, it left a lot of gaps and plot holes. What the hell happened to Betsy, what happened to her mom in the end, why did she die, what did the forest and the moon had to do with it...? Was there an actual possession or was she mentally ill? What happened with the weight thing, if that latter was the case. So many unanswered questions, the ending was quite unsatisfying...
The grandma kept pissing me off with her "tips" and lack of actual help. I felt uncomfortable with how food was used in the film, which I guess was the point so kudos for that.
I personally think it shouldn't be under the "horror" category. It wasn't scary, just stressful, it's mostly "family drama".
I loooooved this movie! The cinematography was great, the actors were all amazing and the plot was interesting! It wasn't that scary, imagine Abigail level of scary, but it was spooky enough!
Honestly the most creepy thing was grandma May. From the start you can see that she is unwell and planning something. The Sandman as a concept wasn't bad, I just wished it was explained a tiny bit more, or maybe we could see some sort of closure for Vincent in general.
I like that they didn't leave us hanging and confused about where the tree and Sandman came from. In my very humble opinion, aunt Patti is very scary as well, especially when she smiled, I thought she was possesed or something... And we all agree it was her fault Shawn and Julie died right?
Anna laughing at the end, UGH Whitney Peak (see the name wasn't a coincidence) is such a great actress, we can tell she is going crazy and it just ends there! Will she find Julie in the bath? And where was Shawn's body when Anna and May were near the tree together (the scene where May collects mud in a jar). I wish we got answers to those questions but it's nice leaving the viewers guessing things, this just means I'll be thinking of this movie for the rest of the week.
I saw the ratings and I'm so confused?! why is it so low...? It wasn't that bad, I feel like people didn't like the anti bullying message it tried to pass, or maybe the unanswered question of what happened to Anna after.
Lastly, I'd like to share this comment I came across that made me laugh out loud, literally. Shawn was the whitest trash alive, but Finn Bennet isn't 💀
Would I suggest this to my friends? 100% yes, I am thinking of inviting them over so we can watch it together
Even though the cinematography was alright, I fail to see the point of this movie...? There is almost no plot other than the failed mission and the American soldiers trying to escape. That's all...
I'm not sure if it's supposed to be an anti-war movie. I saw a lot of comments saying it was but I don't really agree. It feels more like some sort of propaganda. Or maybe the point of the movie is so deep, only people who notice details get it, but I'm not one of them in this case.
At the end of the movie we see Iraqi civilians get out of the ruins of their homes, yet we also see the American soldiers being congratulated at the credits, which is confusing. There is literally zero political or historical information in the movie, it's just war.
The characters have little to zero personality, the movie itself keeps you alert, but bored at some points (me specifically, when I couldn't understand what was going on). The actors were alright but the movie was pointless, for me.
If you want to watch this for Finn Bennet, don't even bother, he has 3-4 lines max.
Would I suggest this to my friends? Absolutely not
