Goood everytime I think people can be normal and get along someone pulls shit like... Hmmm.... bullying??? I don't care that it was supposed to be a "joke" to you, it was badly done anyway
Intentions are different than reception and consequences, idk how people don't think for a second how the person involved will feel upon finding it. Or think about it but then decide it's fine anyway
Be mindful about what you're doing. Put yourself in the other person's situation first. Use your brain. Just because you are "anonymous" doesn't mean you can say and do what you want. I trust many of you already know that (I HOPE SO if you are following me) but I will write it regardless
Think:
1. is it necessary
2. is it true
3. would it hurt me if it were said towards me
+A reminder that you can block others for opinions and not liking someone's content is one thing
Going out of your way to post about it and so deliberately is another and it's an asshole behavior
Some of those are serious issues but other are just my personal opinion
There's some things I already mentioned in other posts, decided to add them anyway, kind of like a masterposts of Waffle being frustrated
⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
1. Not taking Palette seriously
He's so nice and helpful and passionate and responsible but he gets the "The dumb comic relief character" label slapped onto him for the 100th time 😭😭😭 justice for Palette
He can be silly but usually when I see him, it's done in a more distasteful or boring way to me (for example making him the butt of the joke for being "oblivious" to someone's advances)
Luckily I did notice the notion of people actually taking him seriously... I love u Palettlings
2. Bringing Lotus and Rurik down only to fell copies of Palette and Goth
I mean it more in a sense that treating them just like "the same person" kinda hinders any development and individuality for the "fells"
Especially Rurik, because I really like the separate lores that Lasser (formerly known as Angexci) made for him and Palette. It's so cool to see how over time she developed them from just basic concepts to two full-fledged characters (Palette has way more stuff than Rurik does but he still has quite a lot too!!!)
As for Lotus... I think i'm still bitter about how the fandom treated him, there's things you can do with him too outside of that (I'm high on my moots' lotusverse)
3. Due and Dante being (directly or not) "merged" into one character
I knoww, Due started off literally as a concept for Dante 2.0 but (similarly to point 2.) personally I think Due suffers a little when people think they can just be one and the same, Due and her lore doesn't get much attention already (it's different from Dante's story, besides otherwise why would there be an entire second character made!!), Dante always overtakes the concept and becomes the priority in those cases, sometimes they even end up being literally fused into one character
3. Overlooking Palette's AuDHD and Rurik's PTSD canon
Just wish it was well known :( But I get that it might still not be (spread the word!!!)
4. Due deficiency
Not many folks talk about her but heyy the plus is that if they do, it's usually people who genuinely care about them!!
I'm just grateful that there's been a bunch of new content for her recently
5. Using one ship to show the "I love him but he's with someone else " trope with another ship
I've mostly seen it with Lurik and Poth 😭
Yea I know angst and stuff and everyone has their preferences, but not only is it overused, it also sometimes comes off as a little uuh... mean or forced (especially if the person doesn't know about/engage in the ship that made the ship of the angst break up/not happen). It's probably not something people think deeply about but it bothers me
6. Rurik's being seen/portrayed as a harasser
He is freaky. I don't deny that and bless him!!!! (Him and Dante both) But why can't he be sexual without it always being framed as negative or weird (without it only being used when other characters are shown to be uncomfortable with it or it being outright harrassment...)
It's especially offputting knowing he's portrayed like that when he's confirmed hypersexual, but even if he weren't, it's uncomfortable to see him as the person that always makes the other characters uncomfortable. Idk if you get what I mean
7. Dante as a homewrecker jerk
Kinda relates to 5. but yeah, you're telling me Dante was responsible for wrecking a relationship that was already only based on sentiment and push and shove??? Blaming Dante for Rurik falling in love with him (Rurik fell first) is crazy work
Make all three of them kiss already /j
+kinda related, I hate seeing Lotus and Dante in a conflict... Let them chill as besties at least
8. Lotus abuse
Don't get me wrong... There's potential for some conversation about abuse and disfunctional relationships and how it affects people but ohmygooood was it usually done so badly. He ends up either one-dimensional or the perfect victim in media like this, there's no respect for him or his suffering whatsoever, he either gets flattened out or not taken seriously. Beside yeah no, seeing Lotus being tortured or is just not my thing. And usually Lurik's dynamic suffers for making it more "dramatic". (See 10. for more)
Speaking of "dynamics"...
9. Lurik dynamic reversed
I'm glad that the days of Lotus being portrayed as the one who is pining for Rurik meanwhile Rurik rejects him or plays with his feelings are almost gone, but ever since I learned how it looked like in Lasser's opinion, I have the image that it was the other way around (Rurik catastrophically crushing on Lotus and Lotus acting like it's dumb). We're probably never hearing Lotus' side so yeah
10. Very black-&-white Lurik dynamic
There was a tendency to make everything either-or (which I kinda started talking about in the point 8.), make Lotus the "can do no wrong" type and submissive to Rurik who is sometimes portrayed as the tormenter or creep. I feel like this kind of portrayal treats them as weird stereotypes (dare I say tools to indulge in controversial media :p) and, to me, additionally takes away from the fact that toxic relationships and abuse overall can often not be obvious, and that you don't have to behave a certain way or never do anything wrong to be taken seriously or get people's sympathy (Lotus was so badly ooc in those, just for the sake of portraying him as helpless and easy to pity, and Rurik easy to hate). Lots of unhealthy ideas were used in content with them
Rurik wasn't innocent but that doesn't mean he couldn't get hurt and Lotus was hurt but that doesn't mean he was innocent, putting the blame on just one side is wrong
11. No Rurik pov??
Honestly for a ship that was so popular, I rarely ever saw stuff from Rurik's perspective in any fan content
I guess Lotus was just easier to relate to, I think one of the reasons was the abuser-victim thing being extremely popular (and who would side with Rurik when he was portrayed as The Abuser, right).
Kinda wish his lore (esp. human one) was explored more, he had a hard life. Althought I know it could be a little triggering, I think it can be relatable too
12. Palette being put into star sanses-like groups even tho BSRS already exists
There's this joke we have that people often crave for something that's already in the canon but they wouldn't know because they don't check it :'( And yeah it's kinda one of those situations
I get it, Palette is awesomesauce and everyone should draw him being awesome across the multiverse, but did u know about the amazing institute of Bright Star Rescue Squad 👀
13. Not using Rurik Liderc's name
I meaaan some people don't have time to look through blogs, haven't been in the fandom for a while or don't care about things like this, but it's just one of those things that are my pet peeves
Who is Fell Palette??? Don't know this guy /j
Besides, his name is beautiful and symbolic 💅
----
This post is already long so maybe I'll make part 2 if I remember some other points
I'm not going to lie, Palette's author saying that the things that annoy Palette the most are injustice, being left out of jokes and being treated like he's "innocent" even as an adult, when he was reduced to "dumb childish character" by the fans for the longest time, did something to me
Hot take: if the fandom is allowed to constantly ignore what Lasser says about Rurik and Palette and their relationships with other characters then I'm allowed to ignore Nekophy's stuff (most or all of it) and only care about Lasser's stuff 💪💪💪
Sorry that the ss are cropped so much but you can find the asks by searching keywords from them on Lasseutblogo
I was thinking about (human) Rurik this time and I saw this fragment on Lasser's blog which unlocked a set of asks in my memory (believe me, even when you check them as often as I do, some things will still fly out of your head):
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
I don't know if it's common in other countries (I checked and in USA similar places exist too) but for example in Poland there are profiled classes in highschool where you learn like normal high schooler but also have additional hours related to potential future career in the army or border control or something similar, they get army style uniforms so it's easy to recognize them around the town. So I guess it's that kind of thing
When Rurik ran away from his abusive father at 12, he hanged out with the street kids (and gangs):
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
But since he was just a kid, causing trouble, and they were probably looking for him, he got caught. So by the time he was about to be a freshman (14) they directed him towards a military profiled school, maybe to make him "more obedient" and "tougher" (since Rurik never saw his father again, I assume he was either caught at 13-14 or caught quicker but placed in some facility for the time being):
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
This one is not backed up by anything but I assume that the reason he enlisted into a proper army later was that he already started to like it and saw no better option anyway. And with the perfect aim and physical strength he had, they didn't want to lose a kid with such potential lol
Also, I wonder if Rurik's father ever got any consequences for what he did.
Maybe Rurik running away was a cue for the enforcement to finally check carefully what that guy is up to, especially since he was raising Rurik alone. But that's not always what happens unfortunately. Maybe the scum never answered for it.
(on the sidenote, interesting parallel between him and Palette, whose dad got so depressed that CPS took him away and placed in an orphanage... The bio father unfortunately later died...):
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
I don't know why I kept on forgetting about all of this when thinking about Rurik and Lotus as kids and about why Rurik is so keen on being the army guy™, but I like my own timeline too, so I guess I have two now xD
Speaking of The Omega Timeline, I'm really curious about Palette's way of dealing with the AUs. It is said that he, similarly to Core Frisk, focuses on the people themselves rather than the AU as a whole, helping them, especially if the AU got forgotten/abandoned or destroyed (perhaps he can even be in contact with Core, sending some inhabitants of the distressed AUs to them, or asking them for places to visit)
At the same time he's stated to help those who he can to find the path they or their story were supposed to go. Which implies making them go back to the script, I don't think it's like Ink's tendency to care more about the creativity of the author and process rather than the characters themselves, I believe Palette would be more compassionate about something like this, especially since he also helps them find them another path if they don't
Now shout out for Cinna for being my Just discussions provider!! Because I agree some of Palette's more personal approach could stem from the fact that he was partially raised by Just, who comes from a forgotten AU. (read the reblogs to this post there's a few words from them :³)
But yeah, I think his approach is different to his parents'.
I think it might be a shock but bunny tails are actually not little round cotton balls. They're flat and long, kinda like deer (a tactic to deceive you /j)
They also have eye whites when they look to the side which I decided to illustrate:
