February Wrap Up
February felt longer than usual. Probably due to the mix of pericarditis flares, work being in an absolute crunch, and a flood of current events. But I had my moments of peace. I started The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and devoured it. I dug into review copies of some of my most anticipated books of the year—read the complete short stories of Malika Moustadraf, dove into Siren Queen by Nghi Vo. And to cap off the month, I dove into my anti-burnout readathon, took a few days off, read Irene Solà, Nikki May, Masatugu Ono, Edgar Gomez.
It wasn't a great month. Full of ups and downs, brain fog, waiting for better days, excited and scared of the future months to come. I'm hoping that the rest of 2022 has better health and less pain ahead, and I'm looking forward to the travel upcoming in March and April. I'm hoping that even if anxiety remains, I can start planning international travel again soon. And I'm looking forward to reading more fantastic books.
Checkout my latest YouTube video! I did an eyeshadow tutorial using Juvia’s Place Wahala palette and The Zulu palette. Let me know how I did.
Now that I’ve used the Wahala Palette by Juvia’s Place, I can post a review! As always I adore how pigmented the matte shadows are. This time around, they also have some duo/multichrome shades that are also gorgeous. This is the first time I’ve been disappointed in one of their palettes, and the reason for that is that their glitter shadows do NOT apply well. They must not be meant for eye wear since the one time I applied the blue/green glitter shadow (Yanga) it separated the colors I applied underneath it, which you can see here:
From now on I know just to use it as an accent, not on the lids themselves.
YATTA - WAHALA
“This album is about being black, being trans, and being African on foreign land. It's about the tension, splitting, mania, psychosis, and depression that work like a symphony of Bop It!s to keep me alive. It’s cyclical. It's meant to be played in bed, and then at the club, and then walking down the street, and then back in bed. It’s also about making jokes with yourself to hide what’s meant to be kept for just you. Maya Angelou says to keep a room in your heart just for god. My room is full of rage, questions, confusion, and pain - I’m trying to get it clean and pristine, baby!” YATTA is an interdisciplinary artist, digipoet, and musician. They use incantations born of loop pedal drones, channeled screams, and improvised poetry to explore connections between psychosis, prayer, and presence. 'WAHALA' is the 2nd album by YATTA. Written/Arranged/Produced: YATTA || Vocals on “Blues”: Ize || Vocals on “Rollin”: Eartheater, Ize || Arrangement/Production on “I Will Definitely Feel Good”: Felicita || Guitar on “Cowboys”: Dion Mackinzie, Eva Lawitts || Guitar on “Francis”: Watergh0st || Harp on “Sullivan Place”: YATTA || Wisdom on “Galaxies”: Kaafoe Zoker
