Poem on last day @ Waitangi Tribunal Robert McClean 15 February 2002 Newlands The work of one soul is difficult to assess Each fortnight creating a story of which to report To SROs, ASROs and ADCH A deadline for research, a hui over the hill, meeting with the team, reviewing performance reviews, emailing memos and filing Fill the pages of the days past And sometimes you look back and wonder The work of a unit is difficult to assess Each month, each week coming together to hear Other stories of work around tables of timber A retreat programme, a business meeting, a casebook to complete, Qing A again And sometimes we look back and wonder The work of a Division is difficult to assess Key resulting in Aotearoa – Kaipara, Hauraki, Tauranga, Mohaka, Wairarapa ki Tararua The regions roll off between rangahau whanui, Tatum Park, Gear Homestead, a place of work agreement, Df, C, CFRT and Remembering people who have given their lives for this cause (for many who work for the Kingdom will not see it arrive) And sometimes we look back and wonder Maybe 1975 never happened The Act was not actioned The Tribunal never convened And the years passed without a hearing Surely this land would not be the same Surely the past of our past would not be reclaimed And justice proclaimed from the streets of provincial towns Sure enough the future will look back and decide Did we do any good to bridge A gap between colonial and post And bring some sense to something And in my view from this place is yes Bus rolls into town Getting off at this last stop
