Chardonnay Trefethen Napa Vallay 2018 @waitroseandpartners Score 91 Oaked chardonnay? Slightly oaked or No oak? Are you in the Anything But Chardonnay crew? I must admit I go for the no oak or slight oak. This wine is on the developing stage for me. A few years and it is going to be amazing. The acidity is a bit powerful at the moment. I had left it over from the night before to let it settle a little and find its feet. Went beautiful with turkey and the trimmings. It has a lovely citrus and tropical flavour with that buttery and toffee flavour notes in the back ground. It is like a young race horse with speed and power but it doesn’t know how to use it yet. Syrah Crozes-Hermitage 2018 @waitroseandpartners Score 85 🍷Are you a Syrah or Shiraz fan? 🍷Do you delve in to the north of the northern rhone? The less thought of region in the northern rhone compared to its illustrious neighbour Cote-Roti and partial name sake Hermitage. This wine is big, it is bold with a lot of heat from the spice of cracked black pepper and meatiness of bacon fat on nose. This wine definitely needs a few hours before serving to let it get it’s head together to express its self fully. The colour of the wine is a lovely deep purple. The wine does not have a lot bold fruit flavours though. What the wine is a great price-wise alternative to its hard penny hitting neighbours. It is a red not for the faint hearted though but a perfect winter warmer. Crozes-Hermitage has the most vines planet in the nothern rhone but is second in landmass to St-Joseph.
