Life isn’t always wonderful. It isn’t always the perfect Christmas card scene of happy families. Family events, birthdays and holiday seasons often trigger family tensions, rows, stress, anxiety, loneliness, despair and discouragement.

TIP 1: HAVE NO EXPECTATIONS Stop building landmark days of the year to be an amazing time for happy families and joy. It’s often the most intense time for families and people alone. Let go of expectations of how perfect it needs to be and let anything good be a wonderful surprise.
TIP 2: SERVE SOMEONE If you find yourself focusing on sadness, giving to others will lift your mood and create smiles around you. When you make someone else’s life better, watch what happens to yours. There are many ways to volunteer for the less fortunate than you, perhaps in a soup kitchen or by doing an anonymous act of kindness.
TIP 3: Gift yourself FORGIVENESS What if the best gift you can give this year is forgiving and letting go of long-held resentment? This is a great time to free yourself and clear the way to make 2018 amazing.
TIP 4: DO WHAT YOU LOVE At the end of the day, birthdays, holidays and family occasions are what you make them. You can make the time exactly as you want it. So do what you love…..Paint. Run. Climb. Sing. Swim. Serve. Learn. Play. Give. And watch what starts to happen to your endorphins.
TIP 5: BECOME SECRET GIVER How about this idea?….. Make little gifts, perhaps as simple as cookies, write some cards and start secretly making your neighbours’ day with gifts on doorsteps and best wishes cards on windshields! Look out for someone needing a bit of love.
Treat yourself to a meaningful gift and enjoy it. It doesn’t have to be expensive but let yourself have a treasure. You deserve it, Queen.
TIP 6: FOCUS ON GRATITUDE Life might not be exactly as you want it right now but there is always lots to be grateful for. What we focus on grows. So train your thoughts towards the sweet things in your life and watch those pleasure receptions in your brain increase your feel-good factor.
