Just Not My Day... . First thing way early this morning was the flat tire. . Now my CB radio is on the fritz. I like using it when on the road for info, local route-arounds past accidents and slow downs, and at some rallies and gatherings that use CBs for communication. . Truckers and locals can be downright entertaining sometimes, too, when I’m driving long distances and tired of top 40 FM or my own playlists. . So, I bought a new cord and antenna, got an SWR meter to see what the new antenna might need for tuning, if anything, and had things working so hit the road again. . Now nothing, again, and even the SWR meter doesn’t register anything for wattage or SWR. . Just dropped the radio at a CB shop in Walcott, across from the huge Iowa 80 truck stop. Chucking out 40 bucks to see why it won’t transmit OR receive, instead of just buying a new radio, makes sense. . They’re willing to work on it while I hang around the area for an hour, which has value to me, too, instead of dropping it off for a week or more. I’m sure they deal with a lot of drivers who are only passing through. . At least there’s a pretty evening sky tonight. . And, to be honest, the tire thing turned out to be just that someone had let the air out, not a repair or costly service call. Just a bit of hassle to deal with, though I learned a good bit more about tire pressures and vehicle weight in the process. Learning anything new is always a plus in my book. . Here’s hoping the radio situation turns out the same, a bit of a blessing in disguise. .
