Its an oldie but a goodie. Made my first walk sequence three years ago and only recently started to invest more time into it. More animations coming soon!

Well my evening has been interesting/highly frustrating! Ha! - Found out photoshop had an animation feature but it was really awful and couldn’t even playback properly, along with the timeline being a nightmare. - Found an open source prog that was basic but at least more functional, forgot to save and then my computer froze so lost all my work. - Attempt No*3, learned it had an auto save function, went to export and then found out that wasn’t stable. - Found another open source prog that compiled image sequences because it did let me export those. Prog was way too complex to even begin to fumble around at 4am so decided it would just be much easier to film my screen. 😂 - So here’s a really basic walk sequence after banging my head against my desk several times. 😅😂 On a positive note, the Lala Land Soundtrack is my current fave. 💕
Still practicing by tracing home videos, but having fun. :)
Walk Sequence Test 2
In the first GIF, I drew rough lines to get the right movement and timing down. I done this because it would be easier to edit a single line to create the character. Since there is a bounce to the step, I wanted the arms to reflect the upbeat walk, so they swing forward and whip back a little on the way back.
I fixed up the line work when I got the timing I wanted in the second GIF. Though i didn’t draw in the hands.
Walk Sequence Test 1
I used the below image as reference to my walk cycle. I used it to get the timing and placement of frames as an initial practice.
Above: Walk Cycle by Richard Williams
I thought that I should first focus on just the legs and body movements at first and add the arms in later. I tried to give the figure a character by giving the illusion of exaggerated hip movement and a bounce in the step.
The initial drawing was very rough so I could get the correct movements and correct timing. I then tidied up the lines for the second attempt, and also adding colour. In the colour I aded shading so the legs would be easier to follow.
For my next attempt I will add in arms and fix the head, in the hopes of completing this character.
My walk sequence is 25 frames at a rate of 24fps.
My very first gif.
Hey hey! Rotoscoped crow walk cycle. Pretty much just to see if I could, and how well it would work. Not perfect (those freakin' legs--there should probably be one more frame in there as the swing past each other) but not too shabby neither. I'll try not to turn this site into a bunch of super-simple animation experiments...
