I feel you so.fucking.much
OH MY GOSH I FORGOT I now have a fellow programmer on this site! \o/ you know my pain. How are your classes going btw? What language are they starting you on? They’ve switched over to Python here now, which is one I’ve never even touched so like...I’m clueless. Miss the good old days of Java and C. They say Python makes the transition to ML easier, which last I heard was what the powers that be over here were pushing for as the official language because some famous asshole wrote a book and thus needed to keep his work relevant. I miss nerd drama in the programming world.
For the drabble post! This could be interesting: 1 with Shane & Daryl (:
1. Introductions
Keep them safe. That was Shane’s job. Keep Lori and Carl safe. But somehow that had grown into keeping the Peletiers safe too. And then Glenn joined them, then Dale and the sisters with their RV, and Jim and Jaqui and T-dog and before long there is a group of them at the quarry and he’s in charge. Honestly he’s not sure how it happened, it feels a lot like he blinked and missed his own election, but it’s happened and now here he is, dealing with it. So he knows the main rule is to keep them safe and eyeing the beat up truck that winds it way closer to their camp, he hefts the shotgun higher as he takes a step forward.
There is yelling from inside the truck, he can see two figures in there swatting at each other, bickering and yelling but then a door is kicked open, and out come one of the new comers. Redneck. Boots, leather vest, gun and from the looks of it a bad attitude. But he can see the way he holds the rifle, the way he knows the weapon and Shane knows they need more people who can shoot.
“Howdy there Sheriff.” The newcomer smirks, stepping forwards like he owns the place and not looking at all contrite. “Looks to me like you’ve got a nice little set up here. Any room for two more?”
Shane isn’t sure. But before he can even open his mouth the second guy is climbing out of the truck. He’s smaller in size, looks younger, but just as much a redneck as the other man. He watches as the smaller one sidles up to the first man, look pissed as hell as he smacks at his shoulder and hisses. “Mer come on, we don’t need this shit.”
“Hey now don’t be so rude baby brother.” The elder brother grins, grabs his brother around the shoulders and shakes him in a way that looks more painful that affectionate. “I’m Merle Dixon, this is my baby brother Daryl. We’ve been on the road a while, was hoping you nice people might think of letting us join your group.”
“And why would we do that?” Shane has to ask. Because he’s been nice so far, but everybody they’ve helped so far has been like them, lost and looking for guidance. These hicks didn’t look like they needed guidance, just looked like they were looking for a fight. One that Shane doesn’t want to have. “Everybody here pitches in. We work together, you boys don’t look like you play nice.”
“How now Officer don’t be that way.” Merle tells him, still smiling but there is no friendliness in his eyes. “We can be nice. Can hunt too, when was the last time you had some fresh rabbit for dinner? Tell you now you’ll be needing people like us when the canned food runs dry.”He has a point, but Shane can’t stop thinking about what problem they could be. They look like a problem, the kind of guys he’d be stopping from fighting and locking up for the night for being drunk and disorderly. Merle is cocky but the younger one has caught his eye. Daryl is fidgeting, wriggling in his brother’s grip and looking dead uncertain about what they’ve asked for. If anything Daryl doesn’t look like he wants to be here at all. It’s intriguing, because who doesn’t want the safety of a group when the world had gone to hell? But he can see their point. There has been no one coming for them. No police, no army, no nothing. They were on their own, and the thing is, they needed people like the Dixons to help them learn how to get by. Glancing back over his shoulder he can see Carl hanging out with Sophia, looking so young and innocent, so unprotected by him and his one shotgun. Only he and Dale had ever shot a gun before, and as safe as their camp was, they still only had a limited number of food supplies. “You pull your weight and we’ll get on just fine.” He agrees, nodding for them to join in, to set up and get comfortable. The Dixons were joining them, but he doesn’t have to be too happy about it. And from the way the younger one is scowling at him, chasing after his elder brother and muttering about how they ‘didn’t have to do this’, maybe Daryl didn’t want to join them either. Still it didn’t hurt to have the extra protection for the people he did care about. He’ll just have to get used to the Dixons being around, cope with them even if they’d never be friends.

WHAT
He deleted my favorite, the first one he posted, it was like a doll’s arm just going up and down or something, I dunno I saw it last night right before I went to sleep and was like ‘i can’t handle this, i’ll watch it in the morning’ except not apparently
Since you reblogged this fanfic thing LET ME TALK TO YOU ABOUT THAT DRABBLE ON THE SHADOW AU. The way you write Daryl in this fic goes straight to my heart. Like he's so fragile and Shane and Rick being so protective with him. It's just perfect really. I can just picture everything when I read this fic and it breaks my heart how hurt and traumatized he is you know? Which tells me you're doing an awesome job as a writer. Don't wanna be annoying but i think it's important to let you know.
It’s not annoying at all! Honestly I love talking about my writing, but The Shadow is a bit of a pain in the bum for me at the moment. I’ve got the general gist of where it’s going, and a few scenes planed out in my head, but i’s just difficult to get it where I want it to go. Like, I know once I get this block out of the way I’m sure it’ll flow easily, but I think a lot of it is the worry of getting another long fic to work on when I’m still not finished with others. I think I’m always worried of having to abandon a fic and I really don’t want to. The Shadow is nice to play with the more feral side of human nature and getting to see the struggle for Rick and Shane to get to know who Daryl is beneath his need for survival. Daryl is someone who’s been abused and neglected his whole life in this fic, he’s trusting and innocent though, and he’s confused by the sudden appearance of this group. It will eventually be a Sharickyl fic, but I prefer to have my fics ‘realisitic’, ZA not taken into account. So I tend to want things to develop slowly, but I don’t have a lot planned for the time it’ll take?Daryl wants Shane and Rick, in his mind they give him affection and are kind to him and though at first he just wants their company and physical comfort, it turns into more. The first time he kisses one of them they think he’s confused, have seen Shane and Rick’s relationship and assume that’s how he can show affection. But after they explain that Daryl doesn’t have to do that to say thank you etc and Daryl explains he wants it and likes it, it develops from there. I just don’t want to rush it but I also don’t want to drag it out too much. So I was thinking of including a time skip or just kind of going week by week instead of one linear fic you know? He’s so sweet and innocent, he likes when Lizzie comes and talks to him and in a way I think Daryl helps Lizzie deal with her own problems because he’s someone who is different but not a danger like the walkers. She earns his trust and he earns hers, leading to her reading to him sometimes and sharing meals. It’s a sweet relationship you know? He’s fun to write but I don’t want him to seem too unintelligent? Like this is consensual and Daryl is fully capable of making his own choices when it comes to their future relationship. Just want to make that clear you know? It’s a pain in the bum to be so stuck on a fic, but I’m sure I’ll get there eventually. Glad you still like it and are so patient with it all, I know it must be frustrating to have to wait so long. But it means a lot that you guys like my fics and writing so much, it’s a huge boost to my confidence and I’ve actually got a list of all my prompts/multiple chapter fics I’ve got to work on before I think of playing with anything else. I love writing and don’t want it to become a chore, and knowing it makes people happy as well as myself just makes it even better. Thanks again! <3 xx
For twd ask: #12!! 😁
12: Most complex character and reason for thinking so.
Well it’s no secret that Daryl is my favourite character and one of the things I adore about all my fandoms is getting to explore my favourites. But despite my love of exploring Daryl, he’s not that complex. Really he’s actually pretty standard and shows clear behaviour related to his past, he’s textbook really but still fun.
But Shane Walsh? Now that’s a complex bugger, if only because we only know so much about him. Now when Rick first awakens in the hospital he mentions Shane’s grandmother giving him that awful vase, so we know that Rick has met Shane’s grandmother, or at least knows of her, so she’s ‘alive’ at this point in their relationship, ZA not taken into account. So from this we can assume that Shane’s parents are alive and well and since we know this is their home town in King’s County then it makes sense they’d be nearby if Shane and Rick both grew up here.
Yet Shane Walsh is with Lori and Carl. Now yes, Rick and Shane are BFFs and of course we all understand that Shane is saving all he can for Rick who he thinks is dead. But just take that in to consideration. It’s the end of the world as we know it, people are dying, those who are older, frail, are more likely to die. Yet for whatever reason, Shane Walsh is not found with his family who we know were at least around, he’s with Lori and Carl, Rick’s family. Now sure, maybe he went to his family and they were turned, maybe he had no choice, maybe they made him leave, we don’t know. But we don’t know. Maybe Shane made that choice and chose for Rick.
Just think about that. Think about making that choice yourself. Deciding between your own mother and father and the wife and son of your ‘dead’ best friend. There is loyalty yes, and then there is Shane Walsh’s loyalty.
See, we see Shane Walsh before the ZA, we see him try so fucking hard for Rick. Hiding from gunfire instead of running, trying to save his best friend. Heck even if he gets Rick out of there, he’s in a coma, what is he going to do? But he can’t bear the thought of leaving him behind. But we also saw him sitting in the cop car with Rick, trying to help in his own way, trying to make him smile, trying to help even if he’s shit at it.
then we see him after he’s no doubt had to kill people, had to save Lori and Carl, had to deal with the grief of losing his BFF and his family and his hometown and humanity himself and it’s no wonder that Shane is breaking down. Being the funny guy isn’t going to save this. There is no backup of Rick here, there is no law to follow or someone to guide him. He’s suddenly got the wife and child he’d never had in his old life and taking care of them is a tougher job now than providing a big enough paycheck each month. Shane’s been forced to become the stable adult he never claimed to be in a space of a few weeks, and we wonder why he’s a little unstable?
A lot of people see Shane as the villain and I understand he’s a needed bad guy to Rick’s hero attitude, that’s how it’s meant to play out and everything. But sometimes I feel he got the shit end of the stick. I’ve always liked Shane because from my own personal POV he was making the tough choices at the start, the thing is, no one had the time to get used to it. Rick in season 5 is making similar choices no, but everyone else has grown into this world, they know this now, it’s needed. But Shane was season 1, he made the choices faster and people didn’t know how to take it. I think he was trying so fucking hard, and though he was a dick and everything, people don’t give him enough credit for what he did sometimes.
tldr: Shane Walsh deserves more credit.
