The very very first thing that appeared in my mind was the bit in Let Me Hand You My Love with Ada in her nightdress leaning up to find cake in a kitchen cupboard and Hecate being stunned by the sight!

Omg remember when @hihereami drew it for me?! Oh that fic is one of my favorite creations for real.

Top 5 things that make you smile!

Meetings at work being cancelled.

Getting postcards or letters from my friends.

Puppies or kittens. Or really just baby animals in general.

Small pleasant surprises, like being surprised with coffee or a snack. Things that just mean someone was thinking about you.

One of my students has started making movies on his Chromebook in his free time. He emails them to me for my critique. They all feature a stuffed shark named "Ms. REDACTED: the Sequel" doing battle against a villain.

Finished the whole thing, and yes on both counts! I just...cannot believe how weirdly intense they are about each other - Saira taking Amina to poetry night and reading that poem to encourage her, Amina getting so pissed in that final argument and then getting on stage at the very end, where is the 50k fic where they work through their respective issues, looks like this AO3 tag hasn’t even been wrangled yet ;_;

Writing asks - 1, 2 & 3?

Describe your comfort zone—a typical you-fic. In fic as in life, I’m really drawn to memory-making/significance-making in small, low-stakes yet important ways. A dinner that isn’t just a meal, a conversation that changes your perspective. The most typical “me” fic would probably involve some kind of exploration of sexual identity or other identity under circumstances that aren’t particularly dangerous or risky. The big question is never “is this person about to die” or “is this person about to suffer massive consequences” but I nonetheless want the person to feel rescued, or to feel like they’re rescuing someone else for the first time. The big question is whether or not they’re going to be fulfilled in a certain way.

Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to? I’ve never written a super traditional hurt/comfort fic before, at least not that I can remember?! I think maybe it’s because the characters who presently take up most of my attention already care for each other in not insignificant ways, so the Emotional Growth would take a bit more digging. But I do think it would be kinda fun to write a story about a really typical hurt/comfort-y injury, like a badly broken leg, and the romance that “never” could’ve blossomed in other circumstances. Hmmm.

Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole? Body swap. Nothing against it, really, but for my brain it would create a potential consent problem and a series of logistical problems that just don’t seem enjoyable to write my way out of (or in to).

Koala - What inspires you to write the most?

Lately it is “what if this character had got support they needed for this thing” and the thing moves around and is different things, sometimes it’s a hurt comfort thing, often it’s a pregnancy. That one is really a go to for me. There’s a pregnancy and someone gets support about it.

I used to think I loved writing pregnancy fic because I’d never been pregnant, and then I had the tiny human and I didn’t for awhile, I didn’t write anything, and now it’s really fun to write again because there are feelings to get at and I want to find them.

I think ”this character gets some support” is probably at the heart of what I do, and this character is usually female (99% of the time), often has dark hair, usually she’s a little tragic.

Hawk - What’s your favorite phrase/quote from your own writing?

At the moment? "Think of it as command training." It only works in content, but it’s the best line I’ve written lately.

Former Emperor Philippa Georgiou really gets fun thoughts, and I love Tilly’s rambling, so they’re two of my favorites right now. Every once in awhile I can get something really good.

Deer - What do you enjoy reading most?

hmmmm, a little angst is fine, but I hate misunderstandings. People working together and learning to trust each other. I truly enjoy curtain fic. I love pregnancy and babyfic but I’m super super picky. (super super super super picky).

Sometimes I love things I’d never write. Humor, because I don’t think I’m funny. Things that feel real to the characters. Things about women, I’m frequently kind of bored by the male characters. (I have never read a m/m romance fic, for example).

I’m having a less interested in sex phase. (might be my antidepressants? I don’t know) I’d rather read about hugging than sex. oddly enough.

The perfect fic someone else could write would be...probably something by @holdouttrout or @gray-autumn-sky or @rikerssexblouse.

i meannnnnn......... all of them?!?  outside of specific career-related stuff, i want to learn all the things? the last good non-fiction book i read was on the competitive fly-tying subculture and exotic birds...  okay, uhhhh: female pirates, city planning, mongolian history.

19. 3 animals you’d love to take care of in your house

that ‘in your house’ qualifier does limit things, because i do live in a fairly small flat!  but: puppy puppy i want a puppy, when do i get a good doggo; i have always kinda wanted a fish tank; ....another puppy.

36. 3 ways of traveling that you enjoy the most

goshhhhhhh i miss trains in the uk.  i probably live in one of the train-iest places in canada now - we have commuter trains and long-distance trains! - but they are not quite the same.  

i have not been driving regularly for several years, but i do love it.  i’ve never done a long-distance road-trip with people, though it’s absolutely on the wish list.

and this may be very niche, but i love ferries.  we have what i believe is the shortest ferry route in the world here and i have never been on it. :P
