This article discusses the inequalities still prevalent in the workforce based on gender. The ONS reported that men are being paid 13% more than women, with women receiving only 86.8p per hour for every pound paid to men, a decrease from 89.1p the year before.The report showed that things are tougher for women in the advertising, marketing and media industries. Women in these sectors rated their industry as worst for progressing female talent, while 51% of those surveyed admitted they had faced prejudice and discrimination at work.However, even with these statistics, a majority of the participants surveyed said their employer was positive and supportive of women. So how can this problem be solved? The report suggested coaching. Retraining yourself or bettering your skills at any level is always a positive attribute. They also suggested flexible working and finding yourself a positive role model.
I found this article interesting because from a young age I knew about the inequality in pay based on gender. Although for whatever reason I didn't really associate that rule outside of the United States. So i was surprised to see that the rule applies in London as well and that the pay inequality was widened even more within this past year. You would think since the UK has such a strong economic system that the pay would be more equal.
