I didn’t know I’d go this far with a spur-of-the-moment I-want-to-animate-something-before-I-go-to-bed.

So I’m playing Elder Scrolls online, and I’m on top of a huge wall at Orsinium. I have a quest active that takes me out of the city. Only I took a wrong turn, and ended up on top of a high wall. I look down, I see a river and dry land. I was tired, I wanted to wrap up this quest quickly, I did not have the patience to circle around the damn city again, getting lost, trying to get out. Out loud in my headset, I went “I should jump from here.” These players behind me heard me and said: “If you jump, you’ll die.” “Not if I hit the water.” And I jumped, shouting: “CANON BALL!” Only, I thought I was going to miss the water Entirely. I went “Oh shit” and my character started screaming. The players above me were LAUGHING at this. Somehow, I was able to get my character into the the water.  “NAILED IT!” More laughter. I like to pretend that they used the cheer emotes too.

Grapple and gum rounds are interesting. They were one of the first combos we put together. See how you can stick yourself to the wall, then shoot another grapple, etc? That's your wall jump combo, basically, and you don't get it until the end of the game. You CAN go up shafts without it, just with grapple, but it would be like bomb jumping in original Metroid - very dicey. You'd also be limited to 4 grapples (whereas the gum lets you reload midway up).
