why would they hate the love of simon though? I mean, yeah, fair enough he did some really horrible and vile things but he has a really lovely character development and hes just kinda... a dad. protect simon at all costs.
I don’t really know lol. I can understand why, if someone doesn’t like a character, seeing a lot of them will push them away further, but what I don’t understand is how people can hate Simon. I mean, the horrible things he did are what makes him interesting, because of how he came back from them. His redemption arc is also really interesting to me because he definitely was redeemed, but even after all of that, he still… wasn’t everyone’s favourite? Like, he was forgiven, but there was a long period of time where he was redeeming himself and trying and no one was having it, which is really different from a lot of other redemption arcs I’ve seen because he had to go through it almost alone, and having everyone he ever cared about, save Lucy, going against him throughout it.
And he really is just kind of a dad. I love that. And if everyone is good, and everyone is morally just, it makes for a boring story. There has to be complex characters and bad characters and morally grey characters for a story to work, and to emphasize the goodness in the protagonists. Simon shakes up the story and is really complex and I love him, and no one can take that away from me.
