ATTENTION ANIMAL LOVERS: Everyone needs to boycott #Walmart because of the horrendous conditions that they keep their fish in. WAL-MART should NOT HAVE ANIMALS IN THEIR STORES. My husband and I witnessed atrocities today against many beautiful creatures. The picture you see above is from one of Wal-Mart's many fish tanks - a DEAD SKELETON OF A FISH. This fish has been dead and rotting, with live fish in the same tank, for WEEKS from the looks of it. In the other tanks, I witnessed many dead fish, with live fish feeding on the dead. The tanks are ridiculously dirty and they clearly have not taken any time to go and clean out the many piles of dead bodies. I saw one fish with a very bad swim bladder problem. We thought he was dead until we saw his gills and mouth moving. He was flopped onto his side and couldn't swim or float on his own. I was saddened and near tears in the store, seeing all of the dead and dying fish. This was the Wal-Mart in Saraland, Alabama, but this happens in Wal-Mart's worldwide. Please do not purchase fish from Wal-Mart and leave bad reviews on your local Wal-Mart mentioning the fish. Call the managers. DO SOMETHING if you see conditions like this. Pictures we have taken

Some of the things below the cut contain dead fish so...yes.

Taking a stroll through the pet section of walmart I ran into two crowntail beta's IN THE SAME BOWL! I was terrified, one beta's take was torn to bits as seen in this picture below.

The 'victor' as I would say it had tears and holes in his fins and his gil was torn and intruding out badly. I quickly grabbed the net in the sink, not afraid to get in trouble, and pulled the dying one out of the bowl and put him into the empty one that I'm assuming the poor guy was taken out of.

The injured one was dying fast as I tried curing him. I immediately ran to the manager, informing him of what had happened and discussing with him how I needed to provide medical treatment for him, I was able to get him marked down to 50% off, but alas, the fish didn't survive.

This was a picture taken before he passed up above, and down below.

Is sadly when he died...before I could even get him out of the store.

I in return bought the 'victor' and got him home as quickly as possible to treat his wounds.

I got him into a one gallon bowl along with a live plant and some medicine and aquarium salt that we diluted to help him return to health quicker.

Obviously he's is doing a lot better, he's swimming and eating, his fins are coming out more, the only thing that's a real concern his his gil where he was flaring his still puffed out on his right side.

Deciding to be a little curious, I went and pulled my test kit out to test the betta's water conditions in the bowl he came in, needless to say, the ammonia level was at an 8.0ppm. Way off the charts of a good level being 0.

For those of you that don't know, ammonia is like the fishes own waste destroying the water. That's right, the fish are all basically breathing in their own piss and urine.

Not only was that bad, but returning to the store approx. a few days later I looked at the shelf, just for my own amusement to check up on the fish ad wondering if they actually did their job and got rid of the dead fish from the other day.

I didn't see it, but as I moved the other fish, there he was, pushed to the back out of sight was the fish that lost the fight.

It was already decomposing and rotted away.

Some smart ass employee or someone decided they didn't want to take the time to actually get rid of the fish,

so instead hid it behind the others and hoped no one would notice.

This was the final straw.

Walmart Bettas

The Walmart I live near of course has a live fish sections, that much saying they have several beautiful Beta fish ranging from $3 to $7.

I started coming around the fish section more often considering I have recently started to acquire mounds of new fishy friends.

Recently we have been noticing more and more about the Beta section. Water becoming more yellow, feces all inside one little cup, and many corpses from the several lost ones.

Needless to say I was immensely upset consider I have a Beta of my own. A twin tail half moon named Peepers.

Days went by and I started to come back every night around 5am. More fish dropping quickly to the point it was terrifying. It even appeared to get to the point where I was seeing the same dead fish decomposing a week or so later. I was outraged and immediately went to the manager. How could walmart possibly allow animals to just die in their place of establishment.

Needless to say, most people don't care so deeply about fish as they would cats and dogs.

I, of course, took some photographs of the scene to further provide my case which I will put under a read more on another post considering like me some people can get a little terrified of dead fish or in the least sick.
