WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON WALMART FISH

I've never gotten fish from Walmart so I dont-??? I don't know???? What's your opinions? Should I avoid it??????

This is Havelock from when i first brought him home from Walmart vs. him now. The saddest walmart fish can become some of the most energetic ones with just a little love!

New betta..

Okay so this was totally unplanned. Me and mother went to Walmart for a spot of groceries. Stopped by the fish section to pick up some food for princess because she doesn't eat the float pellets. And I see the store betta section IS FULLY SOCKED WITH SICK BETTAS. there's one betta specifically who caught my eye. Less than an inch of water laying on his side. I grab him and a few other bettas who are in similar conditions. And go to the service desk. I ask to speak to the manager and the fish department head. Turns out they DONT have a head of the fish department. A 17 year old guy I used to go to school with is stocking the fish. We go on to explain to him and the manager that this is unhealthy for the fish and I was mortified by the oscars eating the gold fish >.> none the less he says he can't take care of the lil guy with Ray bends and pays out of pocket for him and a good filter and food. Now I have a lil guy swimming around in a three gallon. Being treated with betta fix. And has no name. Please please give suggestions. Will post photo soon after this goes up.

Some of the things below the cut contain dead fish so...yes.

Taking a stroll through the pet section of walmart I ran into two crowntail beta's IN THE SAME BOWL! I was terrified, one beta's take was torn to bits as seen in this picture below.

The 'victor' as I would say it had tears and holes in his fins and his gil was torn and intruding out badly. I quickly grabbed the net in the sink, not afraid to get in trouble, and pulled the dying one out of the bowl and put him into the empty one that I'm assuming the poor guy was taken out of.

The injured one was dying fast as I tried curing him. I immediately ran to the manager, informing him of what had happened and discussing with him how I needed to provide medical treatment for him, I was able to get him marked down to 50% off, but alas, the fish didn't survive.

This was a picture taken before he passed up above, and down below.

Is sadly when he died...before I could even get him out of the store.

I in return bought the 'victor' and got him home as quickly as possible to treat his wounds.

I got him into a one gallon bowl along with a live plant and some medicine and aquarium salt that we diluted to help him return to health quicker.

Obviously he's is doing a lot better, he's swimming and eating, his fins are coming out more, the only thing that's a real concern his his gil where he was flaring his still puffed out on his right side.

Deciding to be a little curious, I went and pulled my test kit out to test the betta's water conditions in the bowl he came in, needless to say, the ammonia level was at an 8.0ppm. Way off the charts of a good level being 0.

For those of you that don't know, ammonia is like the fishes own waste destroying the water. That's right, the fish are all basically breathing in their own piss and urine.

Not only was that bad, but returning to the store approx. a few days later I looked at the shelf, just for my own amusement to check up on the fish ad wondering if they actually did their job and got rid of the dead fish from the other day.

I didn't see it, but as I moved the other fish, there he was, pushed to the back out of sight was the fish that lost the fight.

It was already decomposing and rotted away.

Some smart ass employee or someone decided they didn't want to take the time to actually get rid of the fish,

so instead hid it behind the others and hoped no one would notice.

This was the final straw.

Oscars

Ugh there are these baby albino tiger oscars at Walmart. They've been there for weeks. There's three of them and one has the most perfect red pattern. And I LOVE oscars. I feel so bad for them; they're only an inch and half long and I worry someone will get one not realizing that they aren't always going to be that tiny... I want to get the perfect one so bad, but the reality is that I just don't have the space for it. If I upgraded ALL the goldfish to a pond, including the fancies that I would rather not put in a pond for the winter, the oscar could take the 40 until I could upgrade it... But the truth is its just not cool to get a pet that I don't have a reasonable long term plan for... Ugh being responsible is hard when I know these babies could suffer from someone else being irresponsible.

Ugh I just saw all the bettas in Walmart... Wanted to take all of them home! Also all of their tank toys seemed like they would release paint or chip off...
