I'm still to meet someone more obsessed with race than the waltdisneyconfessionsrage mods, good lord.
I die a little inside every time I see one of their posts.

waltdisneyconfessionsrage is a beautiful thing. I'm talking lecturing an actual Latin person about how wrong she was for being happy with Honey Lemon.
Oh, wow.
What are your thoughts on waltdisneyconfessionsrage ?
I've seen a few of their posts and they're absolutely eye-roll inducing.
The arguments over at wdcr don't cease to amaze me.
I found the waltdisneyconfessionsrage blog by seeing what you were reblogging on my dash and omfg it's the best thing ever!!
I know, right?! The mods over there are wonderful and they put up with so much, and they’re so educational. I have a lot of respect for them and I think their blog is practically mandatory (or at least it is for me ^.^)

Since tumblr is where I have learned the most about how to try to be a better ally and to be more aware of my privilege, I thought I'd pose this question here. I had a bit of an awkward conversation with a coworker today and I feel like I probably didn't respond as well as I should have, and would like to be better about it if it ever happens again.
To preface: I am white and the coworker I was speaking with is black.
We were discussing a recent change in management that our department is undergoing. We went from having an onsite manager to having an offsite manager located in Texas, and it's been a difficult transition for a number of reasons (lack of communication, time zone difference, etc.). My coworker had this to say about our new boss:
"I'm not sure I've ever met her in person, but I dealt with her remotely when I was getting set up to work from home before. They were having all kinds of problems getting my phone line set up right, and it took a long time before they figured it out. When I got in touch to let her know what was happening, she kind of scolded me. And I was like, 'Now hang on a minute; this isn't my fault!' And I got to thinking, where's she from? Down south somewhere. Probably she's a racist and is used to cracking the whip; thinks I'm one of her slaves. Anyway, I scolded her right back, and she acted a little nicer after that, but I'm not looking forward to dealing with her again."
And I just... wasn't quite sure how to respond. I'm not the world’s best conversationalist to begin with, and it seemed a little out of left field to me, since she had just admitted to not having actually met this woman before. But I just sort of nodded and said that our new boss was wrong to blame my coworker for something the installation crew had messed up, and left it at that. She went back to her desk, and I got the impression it wasn't the response she was hoping for. I'm not sure what the scolding entailed; probably I should have asked. I was kind of afraid to say anything further, though, because my office is notorious for shit getting back around to management, and the last thing I need is for my brand new boss to be hearing from some third party that I'm calling her a racist when I've never even met her, either.
So what do you think, tumblr? Was my attempt at a diplomatic response okay, or should I have said something better in either my coworker's or my boss's defense?
