Damned – Walter x Victim 21 (Post 21 Sacraments ending)

The heat of Hell itself branded his skin with the numbers that bound him here. He had failed Eileen, failed every single one of the Sacraments, when he had died. In a way, 21 felt as though he had even failed Walter. Though the child (innocent, hopeful, naïve) apparition of Walter seemed to be pleased with simply being in 302, the adult remained ever silent.

Time seemed infinite and nonexistent.

It wasn’t until he heard Walter’s voice, deep and despairing, that he noticed he hadn’t heard anything since the first day of his creation. The Receiver tried to reach out to him, giving Walter a small pleading gasp, though he hadn’t understood what was said.

He nearly sobbed when he felt fabric against his fingertips. It was a chest, Walter’s chest he could tell, though the darkness still consumed his vision. Slowly, his fingers made their way up Walter’s neck, finding his chin and finally his cheek. One hand rested there while the other touched Walter’s lips, that remained settled in a small frown. He found himself shaking, suddenly entranced with the ability of touch.

The Receiver let out a small whimper when Walter began to trace the numbers on his chest. Numbers… No, number. 21. He was 21, Walter’s 21. Why?

His hands found long hair that somewhere in his mind knew was blonde. The pain, the longing, lessened the more he touched, the closer he got. Walter had drawn their bodies together and it wasn’t until the pain had all but gone from his head that he could finally understand what was being said. He ignored the words, painful and lonely words, as he allowed Walter to touch him. Anything to feel, anything to relieve the constant pain, anything to feel closer to life.

“I’m sorry.”
