SATURDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO: “Somebody Loves You (Like Dino Said)”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcmZfye_b8k …Some years ago, I stopped a man from jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. His nickname was Froggie (real name John). He tipped me off with a scrawled note written on a torn-out magazine ad for Marlboro cigarettes—the ad showed a man smoking at same Bridge. When I first met Froggie, he was a bike messenger in San Francisco. He painted flowers on his face, based on some numerological equation. It could be said he was “a little lost lamb” in “the heart of the city” (to quote Nick Lowe’s song). A year after the Bridge incident, he turned up, sane and sober, and thanked me for intervening. Little did Froggie know he’d end up in verse 3 of this song...my funk-soul ramble musically inspired by Joni Mitchell and The Staple Singers. The title is a refraction on the Dean Martin’s “You’re Nobody Till Somebody Loves You.”
Out in cyberspace there are interesting live clips of this song, solo and w/band, from California to Florida. However, the best fidelity take is the original acoustic studio version played on detuned 12-string slide guitar, produced by Mark Doyon and recorded in Virginia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcmZfye_b8k
