Wanderlost!Spamton because I can finally draw him and not want to crumple myself up like paper when I see the result.
In Wanderlost, Deltarune ends with the Angel (Player) modifying and fixing the world to make things better for everyone post-Roaring. That's why Kris has monster features, Susie has more dragon-like features, ect.
Spamton and the other Darkners are given more "Lightner" like forms. Spamton regains much of his original height and sanity, along with getting flesh and feathers/fur, but the damage done to him still remains visible in the form of strange "scars" that litter his body and remind him of what he once was. Every Darkner affected by the Shadow Crystals has these scars, though they all look different.
Spamton actually acclimates very well to his new life! He becomes a mechanic/used car salesman, and he does very well for himself. Having a streamer/YouTuber husband to advertise for you definitely helps lol.
One of the biggest differences between Wanderlost and Undertale is the relationships between the Dreemurr and Font families. In Undertale, Sans and Papyrus don't even know Toriel, save for the jokes that Sans and her share through the door. It's clear they've never met in person, because neither Sans nor Papyrus recognize her when she appears near the end of the True Pacifist Route.
In Wanderlost however, the two families are much closer. Sans and Gaster are the two main Royal Scientists, being quite close with both Asgore and Toriel. Papyrus, in this au, had a similar relationship with Toriel as Undyne does with Asgore when he was younger. Papyrus was Asriel and Chara's babysitter, having been around them since Asriel was born and Chara fell down. (More Lore Below)
It's this close relationship that ultimately shaped how his personality and mannerism evolved as he got older. Papyrus carries an extreme amount of misplaced guilt for what ultimately became of the royal siblings. Chara's death was extremely sudden and had very little warning, as the "illness" killed them within two days. After Chara passed, Papyrus, who'd been watching over the two kids at the time, stepped out for a moment to break down. It was in this timeframe that Asriel put their plan into motion.
Papyrus fully believes that, if he had not stepped away, or if he'd learned to use shortcuts like Sans and intercepted the prince before he reached the barrier, that Asriel would still be alive. Losing his charges, his mentor, Toriel (who left for the ruins very soon after her children's deaths), and his father (Determination Extractor Incident) in such a short period of time really killed the bubbly/overly optimistic side of him.
He's terrified of losing Sans due to his low HP, and when Frisk comes along he becomes very overprotective and paranoid for a while, something that he has to learn to curb before it A. destroys his social life and B. tips off Undyne that something is wrong.
