Been replaying the game on and off again when I've felt stuck in life. Got to a specific part in the first episode/season/whatever again and have thoughts.
Spoilers:
So, Gerald gets overtaken by his curse, right?
1. The only thing he remembered was his son and wanting Timothy to think he is cool and wanting him to know Gerald loves him and is proud of him??? My heart???
And, listen, I am not saying his obsession with being the most involved in his child's life and having him wear his face on a sweater is the most healthy relationship ever but I am also aware his character is dialed up to eleven for comedic purposes. Anyhow, his whole quest for knighthood (or his vague idea of it, anyway) was kick-started by him just wanting his child's approval because Timothy is the most important person in his life and he wants him to be proud of him the same way Gerald is proud of him and I need to be PHYSICALLY RESTRAINED!
2. I hope he didn't die. I so hope he didn't die. Can you imagine losing your dad because you thought he was lame and he went on an unnecessary and deadly quest to prove you wrong and then never returns? Aaaaaa
3. I also think he won't die, though. We learn later on the Forest has its ways of giving people what they need. So, maybe, the curse is Gerald's *actual* knight adventure he needs to go through and overcome and then Timothy actually thinks he is cool and awesome because who else's dad has fought off a whole-ass curse? Badass as hell.
4. One of the things he says (while, yes, it appears at first glance to just be mysterious gibberish) is that we are the becoming and we are the pain of becoming. And with EVERYTHING happening in my life (Jesus Christ, a L O T has been going on, somebody take me off this rollercoaster pleaseee), I can relate to that. Yes, we ALL A R E the becoming and the pain of becoming, life is one change after the other. And it comes with challenges and growing pains. But it will be okay.
And, really, that's why this is my comfort game and I come back to it when I need to slow down - the game tells us life is change and change is hard as shit but can still lead to something better. The game teaches us to be patient with ourselves. The game takes you by the hand and says "It's going to be okay".
