WX-CLOSELY
Wang Xiaosong has exhibited last year his oil paintings in Germany, Italy and Austria. The following video (“Unruly Ants” solo exhibition), a close view of his paintings, want to show the formal complexity in the use of color in his works. Large canvases covered by vast amounts of thick oil painting (some paintings containing more than 15 kg oil) of complex shapes representing small human figures, lines and cracks, which is revealed in a splendid monochromatic simplicity. Though, approaching the surface, eye perceives not only the formal complexity in the application of paint, but also several layers and transparencies that structure the canvas. The game between complexity and simplicity shows the inherent difficulty of apprehending reality... if there is any reality at all.
