I usually love being on goodreads but whenever some dudebro tries to friend me, I go check out his comic reviews to see if I’d want them in my feed.

Any time I see “the SJWs ruined this comic” or “I hate these new PC heroes” I stay far, far away. It’s baffling to me that people read run after run of iconic characters like Captain America, Superman and Batman and think writers need to keep politics and diversity away from comics.

What I liked about 14x06 was how AW!Charlie didn’t allow Sam to see her as the Charlie he knew. She kept reminding him she wasn’t that Charlie whenever the subject was brought up. 

I noticed posts on my dash pointing out how OOC Sam was when he tried to convince Charlie to stay, even though she wanted to leave. I didn’t see it that way. To me, how Sam acted and what he said to AW!Charlie was in character. What I saw was Sam seeing a second chance in AW!Charlie. He still believes Charlie’s death was his fault (it wasn’t). That guilt cemented once MOC!Dean said it was Sam’s fault, and it wasn’t absolved. 

Sam’s actions toward AW!Charlie revealed another shade of Sam’s trauma. It was Sam’s way of fixing the wrongness of Charlie’s death by having AW!Charlie around. But the downside of this is not respecting AW!Charlie’s choice when she decided she wanted to leave. He used the Musca as a metaphor for AW!Charlie, convincing her to stay. I see the metaphor but AW!Charlie survived the apocalypse. She can probably survive in the universe that didn’t go through the full-blown apocalypse on her own.* Sure, Sam changed her mind, but what will happen when she’s ready to leave, or go back to her world. What then? Will this situation come to a head, or will it fade off into SPN obscurity? 

I don’t like new characters replacing the other ones and acting like everything’s right with the world again. The Charlie we know is dead. This Charlie is a completely different character. This also relates to 14x05. The Bobby we know is dead. AW!Bobby is a completely different Bobby who Sam and Dean shouldn’t hold to a high standard other than, this guy might be dating our mom and he is a seasoned fighter/hunter in the field. The show, at least for now, isn’t trying to replace Bobby and Charlie (*squints* I think). I hope not. In 14x05, AW!Bobby makes it clear he’s not the Bobby Sam and Dean knows, with his past and his son, Daniel. In 14x06, AW!Charlie talked about a little bit of her past with Sam. She even tells Sam she’s not the Charlie he knew. Do you understand what I mean?

Heck, this situation looks similar to how Sam and Dean viewed their mother in season twelve. Maybe the illusion will shatter later in the season, allowing Sam to realize and accept AW!Charlie is not SPN Charlie. Like how Dean had to accept Mary isn’t the perfect mother he thought she was (12x22). But I don’t trust the show to tackle that, or allow Sam to process some of the mountain of trauma he has. 

I don’t have anymore thoughts on this. If I think about them, I’ll jot it down. Otherwise. Yep. 

* For now. AW!Charlie had a point about apocalypses. Can’t rule one out yet, right?

I’m putting these together since they’re about the same thing, which I think, after some perusing around, is actually about a new mobile game like Sherlock The Network. 

Firstly, to all my followers, I will be blogging – warily – about it, only because I am mildly curious and because I do like to keep people updated on stuff happening in the fandom and from TPTB. That said, to those who just can’t put their hearts into it anymore, note that I have made a special tag you can block: thegameisnow. I may miss a couple here and there, but I’m pretty meticulous about tagging so it should be okay. 

Secondly, in response to both of you, yes, it’s not surprising to me that they aren’t addressing the backlash and just sweeping it under the rug, but either it’s because they’re genuinely ignorant about what they did or they’re afraid of saying the wrong thing and making it worse, so eventually, “ignore and pretend it never happened”. The third option of them is that it’s all part of the plan. Still shitty though, LOL. And we can’t control how people react to things -- I’ve overreacted in the past myself -- and I don’t shame them for being excited about it. I just don’t want their hearts broken again, is all, and hope that the approach this new stuff cautiously. I’m interested but TPTB and BBC are, inevitably, there to make money.

And thirdly, Nonny #2, I got your second private message and I THINK I know which situation you’re talking about but wouldn’t mind if you clarified it for me. I know it’s absolutely not their first time being this way with their fanbases (I think it happened with the Who fandom as well? I can’t recall).

Anyway, as I said I am curious so let’s see where this one goes. Going to continue tinhatting and remain skeptical in equal measures. :P

I literally just updated last night?!?! 

Vague messages like this are what discourages me as a writer. I, personally, find this demanding and a little rude and I apologize if that wasn’t your intentions. I am a human being, who works full time, long hours, and writing is something I do for fun. Messages like this, demanding I “PLEASE UPDATE” not even 24 hours after working my ass off to get the next part up is not encouraging to me. I don’t enjoy getting messages like “post the next part now” and “when is the next part coming out?” all the time. Did I not do a good enough job? Was it horribly written? Stuff like that goes through my head.  I get that you enjoy the story, but please, please please, don’t send me stuff like this! I am working as fast as I can, while dealing with every other problem I have in my life!

I love divorcing myself from this rage and anxiety maelstrom about the current state of the show & its direction and digging deep to find this eroded crystal of optimism I’ve somehow retained in order to share in your delight.

One thing I do love about Twitter is time coding. It’s way more visible that the tweet you’re engaging with was written 4, 5, maybe even 10 years ago. So, if someone tries to “criticize” something that was written a really long time ago, it’s very easy to understand that the OP may have progressed past that opinion years later.

Tumblr is not that way and it’s rather annoying. If you’ve changed your mind about something, you might not even realize you ever felt a different way until someone likes a post you made years ago and you regret all of your life choices. 😪

I kind of... hate magical fixes. I really do. I don’t know if it’s because of my fascination with psychology and recovery as a process, but magical fixes will never be nearly as compelling for me compared to showing a character taking time for themselves and learning to move past their bad experiences on their own. 

I won’t get into the magical fixes the MCU has done that still piss me off to this day (Steve’s ending for example...) but one thing I actually think the films may have done better than the comics was showing Bucky getting his memories back on his own. We see him going to the Smithsonian and making a home for himself in Romania and taking notes on everything he remembers from that time. I got the impression his memories weren’t miraculously returned to him but we know he remembered things about Steve, their home and their life together. I found that more satisfying. 

(Granted, I would have much rather seen more of Bucky going through the process of getting his memories back in the films but no one seemed that interested in showing that for some reason.)

As opposed to the comic where Steve uses the cube to give him his memories back.
