fearlesslouisa replied to your post:fearlesslouisa replied to your post:ok but would...
interesting stories… brother hiding his magic for years sounds impressive.
he is as useless in spectacular, offensive spells as Ina is with healing, and it happened that for a few years nobody reported the only actual healer in the alienage to the templars (the herbalist tried, envy of somebody taking away clients, but it was neutralized before he reached the nearest chantry)
ok but would it be too overdo if I change Ina's backstory and make her dad go from "a weird dalish dude who appeared in Highever alienage, build his reputation, married in, had children, and probably got robbed and killed on one of back alleys" to "actually ancient elf who woke up, saw the modern Thedas, decided to carry on with the changes and became a city elf; also all of his kids were mages and Maker knows what exactly happened to him, but getting killed by an incident is still pretty possible"
20, 21 and 26 for any of your characters
I’ll go with Ina b/c all questions for Ina and Adaar b/c I need to get a clearer picture of her…and after reading question, Cynthia maybe
20. If your character was allowed to murder one person without any consequences, who would that person be and why?
Ina: Depending on the current situation she would get rid of the person threatening her hard-earned position of Arlessa/ Warden-Commander/ etc. or somebody whose existence puts in risk her arling/her subordinates. Still, she would prefer to not handle it personally, she’s too old for that.
Adaar: She’s not really a murderer type and given a chance like this she would probably stare at the wall for half of an hour and finally make a “phhhhffft” sound.
Cynthia: She exactly knows who she would murder, but she would be too scarred she just seriously considered killing a family member, even if they bullied her for years, and she wouldn’t be able to carry on with it.
21. Your character has been granted 3 wishes; what would they wish for and why?
Ina: 1) Finding a plentiful, certain source of knowledge about ancient elves and their magic (as there is none atm and well, Velanna will be happy), 2) Ensuring she will forever stay in position of power (she really does not want to be dependent on anyone ever again), 3) fulfiling her long, elaborated plan of making elves’ life in Ferelden better (she was making in for years and even consulted it with elves from alienages in various cities to ensure she’s not too far from reality) and making it r e a l.
Adaar: 1) losing the Anchor from her mark (even at the end of the main story line she sometimes wonders about just cutting out her hand) 2) making no one ever again call her “herold of Andraste” or converting to andrastianism b/c of her (ffs she’s not even an andrastian herself this shit is ridiculous) 3) learning what Qunari were before the Qun b/c that has been bugging her since she was a teenager and it seems to be taboo among… well… everyone.
Cynthia: 1) ensure her parents will never ever again influence her life plans as they went way too far too many times to count it, 2) playing her dream roles of serious characters in artful movies till the end of her days without having to go through her part of silly tv movies and tv series and all that stuff she hates, 3) make a list of things that terrifies her a shorter.
26. How does your character prepare for bed? Do they sleep at all or can they stay awake for days on end without trouble?
Ina: She has serious problems with sleeping and quite often goes to sleep only when she is dragged to a bed by force. There are a few reasons: infinite pile of work to do, magical research she tries to go in her spare time, writing long letters to her old friends, having nightmares every time she falls asleep, managing her souvenir collection… Well, she can go through a week with only spells and potions to keep her awake. Still, she has way easier time sleeping when she can cuddle to someone and her sleeping schedule goes back to normal when she finds a lover.
Adaar: She smokes a pipe outside, washes away her vitaar, prepares clothes for a next day, and usually goes through evening reports while in bed. Still, she wakes up at least once every night and does something to pass time until she is able to fall asleep again.
Cynthia: She has a whole going-to-sleep ritual including showering, re-braiding her hair, finding her ear plugs and so on. She tends to go to bed really late and oversleep next day.
another headcanon idea for "why Imekari Adaar is such an elven weeboo loser": she has met Velanna
when she was a teenage, she spend a few weeks/ over a month at Vigil's Keep, staying over at her uncle's place (Armaas the Qunari merchant, or: that guy who took 'I left Qun and now I can do whatever I can' way too seriously; also it's more titular uncle as he was an old friend of Adaar's mom). Her point was to talk a well known inventor Dworkin Glavonak to take her as his apprentice, with some knowledge about Qunari engineering as her bargaining card.
Easy to guess, her plan failed, but on up side he got to spend some time in the Wardens' headquarters, and noticed that every evening a Dalish woman sits near the Andraste's statue and furiously makes notes in her small, green notebook. When she was done, she started reading it aloud to all willing to listen and one evening Imekari was brave enough to join them. Since then, she spend most evening listening to weird, yet fascinating stories about elves, their gods, their god-like demons, ancient empires and parables as different from Qun teachings as it can be. Sometimes the other elven woman that was always present during the storytelling started telling tales of her adventures, the one about about talking trees, about ancient ruins with dragon lairs inside them, and about a mage who traded his mortality for revenge, that finally started consuming not only his family's tortures but also the innocents. Later Imekari learnt that the other woman was the famous Hero of Ferelden, but she looked so... normal, even if a bit scary.
Then both women would discuss how much of the legends are true and ususally agreed that ancient Arlathan was probably a shithole with nobles and other powers as oppressing little people as in modern Thedas, but for fuck's sake, who would want to tell stories about that. But at this point, Adaar wouldn't listen anymore, too busy visualising the lost-gone world and wondering why no-one tells such stories about ancient Kossiths.
suma sumarum: Imekari has a weak spot for elves.
ok, today was spend almost 100% by writing my thesis and yet here I am, with a notepad file with 3 different dragon age fanfic ideas about Merrill having bad luck, eluvians, my Surana trying to bullshit her way through people who know more about elven lore than her and Velanna being awesome and giving me an opportunity to describe spells from DA:A keeper specialization - and generally elves everywhere

I like the idea that complete absence of Warden's armors in DA:O and DA:A came from fact that every GW headquarter perceived the Wardens of Ferelden as pretty small group that was not significant enough to make a whole shipment of equipment to that cold, mud-covered end of the world. Duncan had enough problems with recruiting fighters, those who had talents and patience for international bureaucracy were a thing for the undefined future.
I also like the idea that when the supplies finally arrived alongside administrators and other help for the arling, the HoF refuses to wear Warden's armor-uniform or even disturb the armor among their subordinates, For Maker's breath, they managed to stop the Blight without those white and blue stripes or steel griffons on their chest, so they can roll with more mundane responsibilities in their well-fitted personal armor made by their own smith, have you ever heard how awesome Wade's metalwork is?!
