Stylist tips: how to jazz up your wardrobe
Happy Monday lovies!
Please excuse my absence from the blog this past few days. Between tumblr being down and my school paper assignments/finals, I haven't had a minute to myself!
So yesterday while "reorganizing" my **yarn closet, (yeah, I sure had time for that!), I playfully tried to pre-select my outfits for the whole week. I highly doubt I'll keep up with the plan but only time will tell..
At any rate, I rediscovered pieces I'd totally forgotten about: clothes that fell off their hangers, tossed all the way to the back, garments that are the product of impulse shopping that still had their hangtags on (don't front, I know you have some too!)
I realized...I was shopping..in my dresser!
I got to recoordinate my clothes and created new ensembles. Looking to revive your wardrobe? Here are a few tips for some re-inspiration about what you already have:
1. Add bold accessories. Pilled-up bangles, a statement necklace or earrings easily upgrade my pull-over/jeans uniform. They're the best way to express my personality and add flair to my basics. If you're only buying a few key pieces of clothing a season (or even a few last-a-lifetime pieces per year), it's jewelry, belts, scarves, and event hats that can transform an outfit. And the best news is you can rotate them out repeatedly!
2. Try a headpiece. Go for glamour with a turban. A wrap is simple, chic, and can go with just about anything. All you need is a dash of confidence to rock it. Or you can simply bear a trendy, "witchy" hat. Contrast your hat with your outfit (i.e. light hat & dark outfit or dark hat & light outfit) to make a stronger statement.
3. Go for color. Once you have your foundational pieces down pat, add a bit of personality with flourishes of color. Add a scarf to a white shirt; wear your black pencil skirt with a purple top; offset a neutral shift with red shoes. Or simply get a few wild card items to complement your basics. forming a cohesive wardrobe that is easily mix-and-matchable, rather than a collection of disparate pieces.
4. Invest in hot shoes. Nothing amps up your wardrobe quite like a pair of eye catching heels. Only invest in what you’re comfortable spending, though!

5. Give new life to your pieces. I love me a good DIY project every now and then. I recently transformed an old pair of flared(?) vintage Levi's jeans I had volunteerely brushed off and transformed them into a Marques Almeida-inspired denims. Okay, I'll have to wait until spring to rock them (as you may know, I live up north), but upcycling your clothes is a great way to increase their cost per wear!
6. Alleviate your dresser by donating. With the holiday season upon us and the natural disasters and tragedies we are facing charity is critical now more than ever. I will be giving away my finds to local organizations and consignment stores in the next coming days. They could become someone else's treasures!
How would you revitalize your closet?
xoxo, Deb
