A Tiger and a Kitten || @warehousetigre
It wasn’t every day that the park was empty.
Day or night, rain or shine, it was a rare occasion that the grassland was completely devoid of people. Tonight, though, it was, and it left the little wanderer to take a stroll that she enjoyed much more without the hundreds of people that normally filled the landscape to the point of absolute crowding. A cool breeze blew throughout the park as the girl let out a content sigh. Her lips curled up into a smile, the ravenette making her way to the ever familiar fountain that stood as the centerpiece of artificial beauty amongst the naturally breathtaking view of the flora and occasional fauna that was the park.
The silence was absolutely killing her, though. Making herself a seat at the base of the fountain, the little earthbender sat on her knees and looked around to take in the sight. Gentle rays of the moon that illuminated the ever serene area created a spectacular moonbow with the fine mist that sprayed from the man-made spring behind her. A beautiful night, a beautiful sight, a beautiful time for a song, indeed. The thought ran through the earthbender’s head as she took the black case of her guzheng from her back, placing it at her side and unzipping it to take out the ancient instrument. Lush lips curled up into a smile as pools of mint-green gazed down at the polished wood of her guzheng while she taped the picks to her fingers.
She loved to play, that was a given, and it was an even greater fact that it earned her a good amount of money on the days she couldn’t work. Still, playing for people didn’t at all compare to playing for herself; alone, she could play to her heart’s content, didn’t at all have to play the mundane songs that people requested the young woman to play for a few extra yuans. Delicate fingers ran gently along the metal strings of her guzheng, large and childish eyes that countered her age of eighteen closing upon the notes floating into the once quiet air. Years of playing had left the girl to realize that she tuned, played much better without looking at her hands; simply watching her hands would be the worst distraction. It made her mind think about what to do next, rather than letting her hands do as they pleased to make the music she so loved.
Once her guzheng was tuned, dainty fingers began the ever intricate waltz upon the twenty-one strings as a tranquil melody sounded into the night air. Lush lips parted as the petite ravenette let out a wordless aria that matched perfectly to the song her guzheng played. Just as it wasn’t every day that the park was empty –especially on such a wondrous night–, it wasn’t every day that the young woman sang. She could never sing in front of a crowd, not like how she played her guzheng. It wasn’t that she was a horrible singer, though; far from that. It was just that the girl was too timid, much too embarrassed to let out voice out to those who came to watch the little musician play.
Still, tonight was her night. No one was here, and the sable-tressed earthbender sang to her heart’s content; her voice a twinkling harmony along with the now lively tune that her guzheng never failed to sing.
