I started playing Warframe the other day (I'd been seeing posts that made me interested in it for a little while, and then I saw Follie's design and fell a little in love), here's some of my thoughts so far!
First of all the Warframes are so cool. I adore the weird biomechanical kind of look they've got going on, especially when they get particularly weird with it. Installing the game was worth it just to be able to rotate them around on the preview screen and admire them (also a lot of them are kinda gender. and hot)
The environment design's also great! I feel like there's a very good sense of visual identity that makes it stand out well against other sci fi settings I've seen, and some of the locations are absolutely gorgeous. I particularly love the 2 hubs I've seen so far
everything looks a lot more polished than I was expecting. I was expecting it to be a little jankier and more low budget, similar to MMORPGs I've played in the past, but everything's very smooth (i actually found this a little disappointing at first, but the style of it all has grown on me)
The game runs extremely well. Better than most online games I've played before, I didn't ever notice a problem with lag
I don't think I've ever really played a shooter before. It's not a kind of gameplay I've ever thought would really be up my alley, but it's really fun!
Movement feels really good in this game, especially when you figure out the right combo of controls to go extra fast
The story hasn't been super exciting to me so far, but I can see a lot of potential in it. The themes I'm seeing emerge look extremely promising
I'm a little surprised by how long it takes to get a a second Warframe in this game - I was kind of expecting to get another one just by playing through the early quests, but I've still yet to get a second one. then again, I have gotten a bit distracted from progressing the main story and have been moving pretty slowly (specifically I've gotten sidetracked grinding to craft Gara)
I do like my started Warframe, Volt, a fair bit though. His 1st ability automatically targetting and chaining lightning through enemies was particularly useful when I was still getting a feel for the controls, since it's an easy way to kill a whole lot of enemies around me all at once.
I'm not quite sure how I feel about how grindy this game is so far. So far it hasn't lessened my enjoyment of the game, it's felt pretty chill to just chip away at things, but I could see it getting more annoying as I play for longer (also I am getting a little impatient to play a new Warframe...)
It does help that I do like the gathering mechanics in this game. I've had fun looking around free roaming maps for ore to mine, though I do wish I could have few more minutes of peace without enemies shooting at me while I'm trying to get resources
I've played co-op with my sister a little, and that's been fun! She's been a bit more frustrated about some of the grindier elements of the game than me, but has been making rapid progress through the maps (she's also a lot better at quickly picking up the game mechanics than I am)
I haven't figured out how it works yet, but I've heard there's a mechanic to trade for the Premium Currency with other players which is very interesting to me. I don't think I've ever seen a game do that before
I think that's all I really wanted to say. Warframe's made a very good impression on me so far, there's a lot of little things about it that are very compelling to me, and I'm excited to continue playing it!
(also i think looking at the warframe designs might be doing something to me. not sure what exactly but i feel like I'm learning something about myself)
