My first time facilitating a workshop on the life of #assatashakur. We listened to Common's single "For Assata." Although a language barrier, the students were able to garner Common's words and wrote down how they felt, what they heard and understood. From there we led a cypher discussion on freedom and what it means to each individual. Chapter 1 of her #autobiography was hard to swallow for most of them, as they were not aware of who she was until today. The work continues. We are all learning from one another. I believe that is how a classroom should be. Each student , although #warlof and #French are their primary languages, felt inspired to take paragraphs to read in English to the entire room, to better enhance their confidence and strength in the language. Proud is an understatement. I am learning so much here, and I have all of #Senegal to think for that. Thank you to my mentors, teachers, choreographers, and #students. The #Senegalese staff walked out speechless. They shared that my gift is in teaching. That I have hidden gems I haven't even tapped into yet and that the students were so mesmerized. I am completely humbled. Many blessings. #JoanneChesimard #sayhername #assataiswelcomedhere #study #cypher #hiphop #education (at Point-E , Les Ambassades)
