Warm Ones - Like A Game (Parts 1 & 2) I used to play bass in The Warmones when I lived in Chicago. They are very much still a going concern, singer Tony Sackett is both a good buddy and one of the best songwriters around. This is the last track on the album that Tony and I recorded and mixed for a few years, a few lineups, a few girlfriends. The basic tracks were recorded in the huge apartment that drummaster Brett Whitacre and I shared above the 87West studio on Fullerton Ave. Jonny Records did that part, and we also recorded "Ulysses", "Toys", and "APB" (which has still not seen the light of day, sadly). Oh, and we also recorded "Ya Can't Teach The Teacha", which is exactly as awesome as it sounds. I recorded the vocals in my upstairs apartment at the Brighton MA house, and my only musical contribution to this song is me audibly opening a tallboy of Pabst during Part 2 (Tony played the bass on this one). The lovely and talented Sarah Rose played the violin/viola parts in the Brighton practice space. The last few things were acoustic guitar, Jim Tuerk's watery electric and electric fuzz Rhodes, and those were done at Clava/4 Deuces, which is sadly not there anymore. It's probably my favorite of my collaborations with Tony, because even though we recorded things for it in different places, it really didn't take shape until we were at Clava, and then it came together in a really creative afternoon/evening. I love this record, Sprezzatura, and am so proud to have been involved, but the ones that came together most quickly are the ones I listen to most. Check out the Warm Ones' soundcloud, their most recent EP was done with Steve Albini, and is fantastic.
