This illustration of the warrigal was drawn by Philippe Coudray in his 2009 book Guide des Animaux Cachés. The warrigal is described as a muscular feline that is estimated to measure up to 7 feet in length and 3 feet tall at the shoulders. It has a shaggy mane around its neck like a lion and has darker brown fur. The feline's most distinctive feature is its two protruding fangs.
The warrigal is seen in Australia's Blue Mountains and the surrounding area. This area has other sightings of large non-native felines as well. The first recorded sighting occurred in 1889, when a large feline reportedly killed and devoured a number of livestock animals. Photographs of the warrigal were supposedly taken, however, "all were taken at so great a distance as to make them practically worthless for identification purposes".
