🏉 Super League Round-Up: Catalans Get Vital Win, Warrington Stay Unbeaten in Eight-Try Thriller! 💪
Two cracking Super League fixtures on Friday night — here's what went down.
Catalans Dragons 22–16 Leigh Leopards
Catalans came into this one stinging from a heavy home defeat to St Helens last week and they needed a response — and they got one, just about. It was half-back Toby Sexton who made the difference at Leigh Sports Village, contributing two penalties and three conversions in a hard-fought 22-16 win. Tries from Harvey Wilson, Charlie Staines and Lewis Dodd did the damage for the Dragons, while Innes Senior and Tesi Niu crossed twice for the Leopards in a spirited effort. It was Sexton's boot in the closing minutes, including a penalty with two minutes remaining, that finally saw Catalans over the line.
For Leigh, the alarm bells are ringing. After conceding nine tries against Wigan last week and now slipping to one win from four games, boss Adrian Lam has serious questions to answer about a side that reached the play-off semi-finals last season.
York Knights 30–38 Warrington Wolves
This one was an absolute spectacle. Sam Burgess' Warrington side raced into a 16-point lead, were pegged back to trail 18-16 by the hosts, then hit back, only for York to come again — before Wire eventually pulled away to win 38-30 in an error-strewn, end-to-end classic at the LNER Community Stadium.
Josh Thewlis and Sam Stone both crossed twice for Warrington, with Marc Sneyd's kicking proving the decisive difference. For newly-promoted York, they showed exactly why they've already upset the likes of Hull KR this season — this is a side that simply refuses to lie down. Former Wire man Paul Vaughan and Liam Harris scored in a late York fightback that almost pulled off a stunning comeback.
Warrington remain unbeaten and are looking very much like genuine title contenders. 🐺
