Penelope: Hey, I heard you like bad girls~
Odysseus: yeah, what about it?
Penelope: Well, not to brag. But, I'm literally bad at everything-
Odysseus: meet me at 8.

Penelope: Hey, I heard you like bad girls~
Odysseus: yeah, what about it?
Penelope: Well, not to brag. But, I'm literally bad at everything-
Odysseus: meet me at 8.
CANON!
Now I just picture Ody and warrior!Penelope both trying to awkwardly flirt with Owl's on their shoulders.
Odysseus: You, uh, you have an owl too, huh?
Penelope: Yes! Owls are-are so great! I-I love owls.
Odysseus: I love owls too!
Athena's thoughts: Sweet Protogenoi, I'm a virgin, and even i can tell they're blowing this.
I like the implication that Penny and Ody, two certifiable smartypants both by ancient greek and modern standards, look at the owls on their shoulders and think "thats totally normal :D"
Meanwhile Ares and Athena are over here trying so hard not to cringe at the teenage sweetness/awkwardness
Penelope: Hey, I heard people are shipping us
Ody: how did you get into my room.
Canon.
Her mentor is the literal God of War and is thus a jack of all trades in combat, smarter than the majority of the ancient Greek population, and is such a talented weaver even Athena is impressed.
You can't tell me she doesn't know how to pick locks. Or scale a window.
Idea: since Odysseus's challenge is to have all the women weave Penelope's Shroud without a single mistake, what if Odysseus's strategy was to use his bow and said the challenge will begin when he shoots through 12 axes cleanly (he makes sure that the bow can only get through 10 axes, just close enough to make the women think he's actually trying)
OH MY GOODNESS!
Zippy, you have no idea how much I LOVE the idea of Ody using the "arrow through the axes" trick to stall his own suitors (especially when you consider the bow itself and his messed up shoulder)
While I'm not sure if Blue and I will include it directly before Ody's challenge for the suitors, I definitely wanna mention it as one of the ways Ody stalls them while waiting for his wife to return!
Ares: I think we're gonna have to kill this guy, Penny
Penelope: YESSSS- I mean... Damnnn...
Even in the original, most people assume Penny's the most sane of Ithaca's royal family.
Most people, though, don't seem to realize that she's probably just as, if not even more unhinged, than her hubby and child.
This is something I plan to being up in my Warrior!Penelope AU, but I find it funny how so many people have Ares turn into a Vulture when Ares also has an Owl as his sacred animal like Athena does. Just a different species of Owl.
I have heard of this before!
I like the idea of a vulture, what with the whole "bird signifying the aftermath of death" symbolism and whatnot, but the idea of Ares and Athena both beefing as thier own iterations of owls 🦉 makes me laugh so hard 😆
Hah…hmmm, emotions.
“Oh, sweet girl, look how much you’ve grown. Oh, my child, sweetest joy I’ve known. 20 years ago, I held you in my arms, how time has flown…” Penelope absorbed the young woman in front of her. A bittersweet image stood before her. Telemache was a woman, one she would no doubt be proud of, for she could feel the maternal pride swelling within her heart. But she had missed all of her childhood.
She squeezed Telemache’s hands to steel both herself and her daughter. “I used to say I’d make the storm clouds cry for you,” Penelope said. She had. She had made Amphitrite cry for mercy just to get home. “I used to say I’d capture wind and sky for you.” She had done that 10 years ago, though she couldn’t say it ended well. “I held you in my arms, prepared to die for you—“ She felt tears starting to well up in her eyes, too. “…How time has flown.”
Telemache pulled her hand away to wipe a tear that fell down her face. The torn away hand caused panic in Penelope until she felt a gentle thumb on her cheek. Pride had not been so present, so strong, throughout all of her life. Until now.
“I can only wonder what your world has been, things you’ve had to suffer, and the strength you hold within.” She looked around again and the mangled corpses of the suitors. How awful that must’ve been to endure… “All I’ve ever wanted was to reunite with my own. 20 years, we’ve wandered, but today you’re not alone. My daughter, I’m finally home!”
At this, Telemache leaped into her mother’s arms. She cried without shame, and so did Penelope. “Mother, how I’ve longed to see you!” she sobbed.
Penelope’s embrace tightened. She felt tears beginning to soak through her cloak. “Telemache, I’m home!” she proclaimed.
“Home,” she heard Telemache repeat softly. There were oceans in her daughter’s eyes. Oceans of repressed emotions: longing, sorrow, happiness.
You know what's so funny?
Blue and I already have a good chunk of the Ithaca Saga written out, knowing damn well we still have to write out the Circe Saga.
...
And now I'm crying. Thank you, Dynasty. I was thinking it's been too long (like 8 hours) since someone on this app made me cry.
As she stared at her kingdom, her kingdom, she felt a tide pull her in. Why was this so...
"What?"
The blue sky was getting greyer, as she began remembering the last time this
happened.
It couldn't be. No, she was so close. She was finally there, her husband and child were finally near where she was. Just a little farther… please.
But the tide kept pulling her in.
"No."
"NO--"
The Water behind her began forming familiar figure, one she never thought she'd see again.
The creature's cold eyes glowing a bright
blue as they stared back at Penelope's dark ones. A small smile appeared. Not one of pity. Not one of acceptance.
One of Acheivment.
“There you are.”
"Coward.”
The woman walked towards Penelope, her hair flowing as black, inky Tentacles circled Penelope's ship, nearly engulfing her in the process.
How was she going to get out of this?
“I've been waiting for this moment.” she began, her garments slowly forming as the sea queen's arms are engulfed by water. “for the perfect time to strike.”
The woman's form is completely missing, fading into the water till she's suddenly behind a shuddering Penelope, why couldn't she just let this go.
“When your home's so close, and you've reached your coast… that's when our paths collide.”
…Was Amphitrite waiting seven years, stalking Penelope's kingdom, waiting for her to get back?
This was a terrible situation… but the thought couldn't help but make Penelope smile… just a bit.
It was her own little way of coping.
“I've got a reputation, I've got a name to uphold” as the Goddess said that, she cupped Penelope's cheek, forcing her eyes to lock at her own.
“So I can't go letting you walk or else, the world forgets i’m cold”
Forcing Penelope to see the look of satisfaction on the Goddess’s face.
“Now, get in the water.”
What?
“Get in the water…”
The queen's smile was filled with malice as she let go of Penelope's chin, the mortals eyes filled with shock.
No.
“Or, I'll raise the tides so high all of Ithaca will die. Get in the water.’
Penelope backed a way, pleasing - begging - the Goddess to stop.
“W-Wait.”
“Get in the water.”
“Stop this, please…”
Figures appeared on the queen's hand, she could recognize Odysseus… who was that girl… it was her daughter.
And she had her eyes.
What was that witch planning.
“I'll make tidal waves so profound, both your Husband and daughter drown.”
“NO-”
“GET IN THE WATER.”
The goddess changed, her body expanding like the waves of the ocean, Penelope's raft almost breaking in the progress as Penelope held on for dear life.
“GET IN THE WATER.”
With each word, the tides got larger, more dangerous.
“DON'T MISTAKE MY THREATS FOR BLUFF, YOU HAVE LIVED MORE THAN ENOUGH.
“GET IN THE WATER.”
The queen repeated that lyric once more as Penelope's raft broke in half, she had been only one wrong move away from falling as she steadied her grip.
“I'LL TAKE YOUR DAUGHTER, GOUGE HER EYES. THAT IS UNLESS YOU CHOOSE TO DIE.”
“GET IN THE WATE-”
(This one took shockingly long to finish)
ZIPPY!!!!!!!!
After the day I had yesterday, this is such a generous treat!
Thank you so much, I love reading this 🥹
