Project hail mary FUCKS HARD, very good movie very very good very good movie.
We (me and my fam) listened to the audiobook version a while back on a 3 day car trip, and god damn did the producers care about the source material. Everything cut felt responsibly and carefully done to preserve the core of the story and all the emotional beats and everything, and the visuals were god tier. They even let emotionally heavy moments Sit for a while, which was wonderful. Also the humor was fantastic and felt very in character/age/moment. And the SOUND DESIGN OHHH MY WORD DELICIOUS.
I do miss the ins and outs of astrophage science, and more scientific nonsense in the book, though. A lot of the super interesting testing process was lost, but if they’d kept all of it in the movie woulda been like… 3x as long.
You could really tell that they actually made the sets, too, and that Rocky was puppeted. (/pos) Things had such a delightful weight to them and the lighting was just fantastic, especially in regards to outer stellar bodies adding to the scene.
Apparently there's a long cut too, that's like... 4 hours, and I need it YESTERDAY
final review? PEAK
