NOT DAVID LYNCH 😭
something i’ve been thinking about wrt the saltzmans is that josie in season 1 in particular seems really used to acting as a mediator for if not both her parents (since we barely Know what the dynamic w/caroline is. sigh) than certainly for alaric with lizzie. her first reaction after the football game is to insist she can explain what happened. when they get back from england she rushes to lizzie and begs her not to be mad at their dad. like... josie as a character makes more sense and is much more sympathetic if you realize she feels responsible for keeping her whole family together. she can't do that with caroline so she just tries not to think about it. but she can try to keep lizzie from getting in trouble and she can try to convince lizzie not to mad at alaric but. that is a Lot of familial pressure for a teenager, and it's not like it's something she's naively assuming she has to do out of nowhere! alaric sees and at the very least allows if not encourages this mindset and behavior and dynamic because he's busy doing Other Stuff (TM).
in other news I was moving a shelf in the freezer last night and had a box of frozen soybeans at least graze my head. beaned by beans. probably it is best that it didn't actually hit full on given the whole "frozen" and "heavy" thing but they did manage to scrape a highlighter-thick line right above my left eyebrow, which is admittedly an injury absurd enough to be novel
