In a recent discussion, I explained to a slightly aghast @jesusismyhostage that I saw this in the theater, first run. I was 3. That shot above was one of the most horrifying things I’ve ever seen. I remember freaking the fuck out. But there was no leaving. My whole family was there too, no one bat an eyelash. I was beyond done. Even now, it kinda gets to me and makes my heart race a little. It’s a favorite now, but sometimes it’s a really rough watch.

It also explains a few things about me and my fucked up brain, the crazy memory for some stuff, the gaps of memory for others, the anxiety, the panic attacks, depression, it goes on…

But so do I.

okay so this morning i realized that the reason (well one of them) that i love leonard cohen's song amen (a very love song) despite me being aromantic very is that... the love in that song is about commitment and not like.... desire ??? in how i read/hear it??? and now i'm less weirded out by how DEEPLY i love those of his love songs that i do. it's because they don't have to be romantic. they CAN be, and some of them ARE about those, but his work just is expansive enough to be about more, or about something else, if you need it to be, and the love in many his songs is so far from inherently romantic. amen especially feels about commitment and care rather than desire.

these can be romantic, but for me, they're not, they're simply a promise, a promise that can be between friends and family, not just lovers.
