#List2012 Ins and Outs: For the Washington Post Style Section
The Washington Post Style Section is encouraging folks to create their own version of the iconic The List due out tomorrow. Here is my tongue in cheek version. (With inspiration from The Political Notebook's much more intelligent list.)
Let's face it, chickens are so 2011. While they will continue to hold a place in my heart (and backyard) we have to move onward and upward in the farm animal department. Fainting, Nigerian, and Pygmy goats are totes where it's at.
Out: Dystopian Young Adult Fiction
In: Normal (non-paranormal, non-vampire, non-futuristic) YA Fiction
It all began with The Hunger Games (and what a glorious year of fiction it was) but by the end I was done. All of those worlds were starting to run together and I could no longer keep them straight. Can I get a little Sarah Dessen-ish fiction back in my life, please?
Out: Glitter Polish
In: Patterns, soft neutrals, and bold colors like Chartreuse
Because I'm tired of removing that glitter shit.
Of course I'm still watching Bones (they're having a baby! every episode is like fanfiction!) but Castle has Nathan Fillion! Nathan Fillion >> David Boreanaz.
Out: Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin
In: Nikki Haley
I've got my eyes on this rising political star from South Carolina to at some point start making serious waves in the Republican party. Bonus points: she seems to actually have a brain! Could be interesting.
Out: Meghan McCain
In: Chelsea Clinton
We talked a lot of about Meghan McCain this past year because she, unlike many political daughters, put herself out there. Between her twitter antics and her Daily Beast column I'm all Meghan'd out. Just in time for Chelsea Clinton to arrive on the scene. She's decided to join the fray with a new gig at NBC and recent outspoken support for gay marriage in New York. With the coming election season I look forward to hearing more opinion from the youngest Clinton.
Out: Mormon Mommy Bloggers
In: Feminist Mommy Bloggers
I can't give page clicks to people who might be funneling their funds to Mitt Romney. No matter how adorable their little pulled from the pages of an Anthropologie Catalog lives are.
Out: Piper Palin
In: Huntsman Daughters
Piper was our favorite Palin; don't even pretend she wasn't. But with her mom falling off the political map it's impossible for Piper to stay on the list this year. Enter: The Huntsman Daughters. They tweet, they're snarky, and I love it.
