"Shinkai-kun, are you not well? You've been quite moody all day."
Kanata's little ahoge bounces at the mention of his name, but then returns to resting flatly on the top of his head. "Mm... I mean, Wataru is not here today. When Wataru is not around, I am 'sad'."
"Ah, that is right," Rei muses to himself, "Hibiki-kun is not in school today. Could be missing it intentionally, or is he not feeling well?"
"I don't know," Kanata sulks. "He didn't reply my 'messages'. Wataru and I have a 'date' today too..."
"Oh, I see. I'm sorry to hear that, Hibiki-kun would never miss a date with you for the world. He must be really unwell."
Kanata's head dips even lower, face puckering up. Rei had just pressed a button within him which unleashed his thoughts at full-force, and now he panics knowing that he upset his friend. "Shinkai-kun, I believe it's best not to listen the ramblings of an old man." All Rei can do is offer him a sympathetic smile. "Regardless, school is ending soon, and you can go check up on him."
"I know."
Kanata turns away, waiting for the clock to play around with the fancies of time and end the day of school. When it finally does, he's out of the class in a flash, determined to leave the school grounds and find his boyfriend-
Yet he is stopped before he can even leave the building. Right beside the exit is a familiar boy with long flowing hair and eyes that sparkle and shine at Kanata.
"W-Wataru!"
"Oh, Kanat- Kanata! Don't just jumps onto me like that, lest I am unable to carry you!"
"Eh?" Kanata is too delighted to listen to Wataru, instead rubbing his cheeks against his in Wataru's grasp. "I can't help it - I'm just so 'happy' to see Wataru. Besides, Wataru will always 'carry' me, no matter what."
Even though he says that, Kanata remembers that he hasn't seen Wataru the whole day, and that Wataru's cheeks are a little warmer than usual. He drops down from Wataru's arms, and peers at him. "Hm?"
"What is it?"
"Wataru, are you not 'feeling well'?" Kanata demands.
Wataru averts his eyes. "Well, it would depend on the exact intensity of 'not feeling well', Kanata. Right now, I'm in the pink of health!"
"Then, why was Wataru not in school today?"
"I was..." There is guilt written all over Wataru as he searches for an excuse. "Alright, I was down with a fever. But I am all better now, Kanata, I promise! Anyway, we have a date now! Let us go now, make haste, make haste!"
Kanata always looks forward to those magical dates he shares with Wataru, but today he doesn't budge. "Wataru, you don't fall 'ill' easily."
"That is true!"
"I know it's true," says Kanata very matter-of-factly. "So if you have fallen 'ill', it means that you're very, very 'ill'. You can't 'recover' from it in half a day, even if you are the 'Amazing' Hibiki Wataru."
Wataru bites his lip, his eyes large and warm on Kanata. "But... our date."
"We can go on a 'date' another time, Wataru." Kanata shakes his head, adamant. "So please, go back and 'rest' now. I will take care of you."
"A-alright."
"Yay!" cheers Kanata, linking arms with his boyfriend as they make their way out of the school. "I've never taken care of a 'sick child' before, I am very 'excited'. Wataru, Wataru, call me 'Nurse Kanata'!"
"I'm in your care, Nurse Kanata."
Kanata giggles. "Ehehe."
Then he leans over to press a kiss on Wataru's lips.
"Nurse Kanata, that is very unprofessional! What if you too fall ill?"
"That's okay. If I fall 'ill', then Wataru will have to take care of me. Won't you, Wataru?"
Wataru sighs. "I'll always take care of you, Kanata."
