Hi! I love your blog! It always helps me figure out how to be an adult. I have a question and I was wondering if you could help. I'm about to move to a city that has frequent water boil advisories. Where I live, we never had them. I was just wondering what I should do to prepare for them and what they exactly mean to me? Thanks!

Unfortunately I’ve never experienced a water boil advisory, so I can’t give you any first hand experience.

From what I’ve read online, if you accidentally consume any water during an advisory period, your risk of becoming ill is very low. However, if you do start to experience sickness (fever, vomiting, diarrhea, etc) you should contact your doctor immediately.

Follow the advisories as best you can. I would recommend buying some bulk bottled water that you can keep out of the way in a closet or under your bed for such occasions. This way you won’t have to worry about boiling water.
