The refrigerator hums between grumbles of a hungry tummy. From inside, bottles of beer clink together on the top shelf and tomatoes on the one below rustle with their plastic. Every now and then the ice-maker wakens, rattling water into frozen form. Across the kitchen, porridge oats bubble on the stove and the tap drips, drip, drips into a black-hole sink.
It isn’t until I’ve stepped out of the kitchen for a moment that I truly appreciate the sound of onions sauteing or rice...yup it’s starting to boil over
