Could you please review Water Faerie designs?
(Just doing the standard water faerie design as there's way too many to do in one post otherwise.)
I always thought it was neat that water faeries get to be mermaids instead of having wings like other faeries; the idea of the fins instead of wings is solid and it instantly makes them unique compared to most faeries. (Also, I just like mermaids, sue me.)
The basic water faerie design is alright, but honestly every other specific water faerie NPC is better. The way the scales cover their torso as well as their tail is a bit odd, and I feel like it works better on other NPCs where it's all one piece. The brown eyebrows are an odd choice when they have blonde hair, and what's up with the flower? It not only doesn't stay on the same side consistently, but it also sometimes gets paired with a shell, which feels busy. (Also, RIP to the faerie's arm in that right image.)
This design was the default water faerie design for a while, and I do like it better. I like the strings of pearls, which are pretty and add a little something to the design; not all of them needed to be kept, but a bracelet or necklace or something would've been nice. I also like the transparent bits on the arms for the same reason, and just having a shell instead of a flower makes a lot more sense (Marina, the healing springs faerie, still retains the shell alone). So yeah, not terrible, but just kind of mid as far as water faerie designs go.
Shenkuu Water Faeries
Based on this post of mine where different regions of the world have different water faeries.
In Shenkuu, there are two ‘varieties’ that are indigenous to the area, “Betta” variety and “Koi” variety.
Both varieties are known for their elusive nature, and beautiful colorings. Like all other water faeries, Shenkuu water faeries are considered wise and solitary creatures, with a fondness for books and poetry. Shenkuu’s government established protective measures to keep both varieties protected from locals wishing to do harm, or tourists who ‘don’t know any better but keep throwing pennies in their swimming grounds’.
The Betta variety are more rare of the two and there have been no reports of Betta water faeries coming in any identical color patterns, though the common theme seen is a dual-chrome and opalescent coloring. While peaceful and tranquil in solitary, Betta water faeries have been reported to engage in aggressive behavior in the presence of other Bettas or even when presented with a reflective surface, such as mirrors. This variety tends to be bottled purely for aesthetic purposes and keeping of these water faeries is considered taboo in Shenkuu culture.
The Koi variety is more common, and considered the more peaceful of the two varieties. They tend to come in orange, cream, and black colors, though there have been sightings of silver and opal faeries. Koi water faeries tend to congregate in small groups in quiet pools or ponds, and locals and visitors often visit to watch these ‘Koi Gardens’, where they swim and dance in the water. It has often been said that the emperor of Shenkuu even has a massive garden pool with a small collection of Koi water faeries for the palace’s viewing pleasure, though this is just a rumor.

Swamp Water Faerie
Continuation of this post of mine.
Swamp water faeries exist in most, if not bodies of water in neopia that constitute as swamps, marshes, and bayous. A subcategory of these water faeries have also been found uncommonly on the banks of the the Lost Desert River, though few have dared get close enough to confirm these rumors.
Unlike their distant and cousins in Shenkuu, this variety of water faerie is not known for being peaceful. Swamp water faeries are known especially for their vicious, predatory ways, and their aggressive nature in tracking and consuming prey. These faeries are not known for collecting books, but have a fondness for the verbal stories. Often times, if a neopet brave enough, they can catch these water faeries sunbathing on a river bank and can read to them in exchange for wisdom.
Also unlike their other water faerie sisters, the swamp variety is known for their unusual coloring. Reptilian in nature, their bodies are covered in a thick, scaly armor in a dark, mottled green, brown, and black coloring. Their coloring is so adept at camouflaging them in water, that often times they are confused for logs or even rocks at the bottom of a river bed. The most striking about their appearance are their jaws. Filled with razor sharp teeth and a closing force of almost 4,000 pounds, these faeries have been known to crush bone and kill prey almost instantaneously.
Records state that these faeries lurk still in the water, virtually undetected, as they wait for their unsuspecting victim to swim by.
